Listen to article

OpenAI is reportedly developing several AI-powered devices like smart glasses, a smart speaker and a smart lamp.

According to The Information, OpenAI is working on different AI-powered devices. It is said that more than 200 employees are working on the project.

The first device expected to launch is a smart speaker with a built-in camera.

The camera would allow the speaker to recognize nearby objects, understand conversations happening around it and support facial recognition for secure purchases which is similar to Apple’s Face ID.

The speaker is said to cost between USD 200 to USD 300 and may ship as early as 2027.

AI-powered smart glasses are reportedly planned for 2028. A smart lamp has also been prototyped though its release is uncertain.

OpenAI previously acquired io Products, a startup founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive. The team is expected to play a key role in shaping the design of OpenAI’s upcoming AI-powered devices.
