GCash announced today their partnership with Facebook to bring the famous virtual wallet into Messenger.
GCash started back in 2004 as Globe’s mobile money wallet and has since grown to be one of the most used money transfer and payment portal in the Philippines.
Facebook Messenger is one of, if not, the most used online communication platform in the Philippines. With Messenger as the platform for the payment app GCash users will now be able to easily send and receive money, buy load, and pay bills with the push of a button, removing the need to travel to local stores, Bayad Centers or money transfer offices. To start using its services on Facebook, users simply need to register to GCash, if they haven’t already, then link their account to Messenger by accessing the GCash bot or searching GCashOfficial. Cross-platform sending (PayMaya to GCash and vice versa) would be available soon but for now, only GCash members can send and receive money from each other.
GCash recommends its user to be fully KYC’d (Know Your Customer) as per Banko Sentral’s rule to be able to fully utilize their services. To withdraw via ATM’s users must buy GCash’ own card.
For now, this feature is only available on android but Facebook and GCash promise to bring it to iOS later this year.
YugaTech.com is the largest and longest-running technology site in the Philippines. Originally established in October 2002, the site was transformed into a full-fledged technology platform in 2005.
