HTC Touch Diamond released in the Philippines

Yesterday, HTC officially launched their newest line of smart phones named HTC Touch Diamond. I totally missed the media launch yesterday noon at the Renaissance Hotel (I have a record of 80% probability to miss an event if it’s earlier than 1pm) but was able to check out the unit last week.

Aside from the press release that HTC will be putting up and office in the country, the new HTC Touch Diamond is the Taiwanese company’s attempt to crack into the iPhone market.

htc touch diamond

Qualcomm® MSM7201A™ 528 MHz
Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional
256 MB ROM, 192 MB DDR SDRAM
4 GB internal storage
2.8-inch
TouchFLO 3D
HSDPA
GPS and A-GPS ready
Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g
3.2 megapixel camera + 2nd front-facing VGA camera
FM radio with RDS

It’s small and thin — only 11.35 mm thin — and very light too (110g). Manila Bulletin Tech Editor Art Samaniego showed me his HTC Diamond unit about 2 weeks ago and he says he liked it. The behavior of the UI is very iPhone-like too.

I was supposed to review this one instead of the HTC Touch Dual several weeks ago but the newspaper guys got first dibs.

The only caveat is really just the price — a whooping Php42,000.

I had this phone for over a year now sadly, I bought this phone right before HTC Touch HD came out and, yes indeed its overpriced here in the Philippines. The phone is great after you made some tweaking to utilize its full 528mhz processor potential.I can even pickup HSDPA signal in my location where other mainstream phones can’t. People say its a slow phone but IMO hey, its a phone with PC. This phone is not for everyone especially for people who got used to the click, click, click system, where you can press menu and there you can find everything. But the bottom-line is that everyone have their own preferences, be it with the ease of use, or having a phone with extra features built in to it.

I don’t see you having any problems using it in the Philippines. I have one bought in Dubai and it works quite well with a Globe SIM.

Retail price in Singapore is SGD1100, about PHP35K+. If I get a unit from Singapore, will there be problems using it here?

Good for my image but bad for my pocket… tsk tsk tsk…

Celphones with Windows Mobile on them seems to be always priced way too high.
