CHED to continue flexible learning for the upcoming years

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has adopted a policy to continue flexible learning in the years to come—as Philippine universities and colleges continue to prohibit traditional face-to-face classes.

According to CHED Chairman J. Prospero De Vera III, in a virtual forum last Friday, the commission had adopted a policy for a flexible learning system that combines the use of online platforms and digital/printed modules.

“From now on, flexible learning will be the norm. There is no going back to the traditional, full-packed face-to-face classrooms. The commission has adopted a policy that flexible learning will continue in School Year 2021 and thereafter,” De Vera stated in the webinar, “What will happen is a flexible system where universities will mix and match flexible learning methods appropriate to their situation.”

This serves as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus—protecting students and educational staff members, according to De Vera. Additionally, it was noted that investments have been made in technology, teacher training, and retrofitting of facilities as a response to the ongoing situation.

Moreover, De Vera stated that the “more prepared universities” will continue to invest and move ahead in using online platforms. Instances of synchronous learning, where some students can come back at specific periods, could be followed as well.

Stay tuned for more updates on this.
