Instagram has unveiled a new feature called Instants.

Instagram’s Instants is a new feature that lets users share spontaneous, unedited photos with friends directly through the app. It is available globally starting today.
Instants appears in the bottom-right corner of Instagram’s inbox. Users can snap a photo, add a caption and send it to either their Close Friends list or mutual followers.
Photos disappear after they are viewed while replies and reactions are sent through direct messages.
Unlike Stories, Instants are designed for casual, in the moment sharing. Users cannot edit the images and screenshots or screen recordings are disabled to help protect privacy.

Photos shared through Instants are automatically saved in a private archive for up to one year. Users can also turn archived photos into recap Stories to share with all of their followers.
Instagram is also testing a standalone Instants app in select countries on iOS and Android.
The app offers quick access to the camera while syncing with the main Instagram app. It lets users to send and receive Instants across both platforms.

All existing privacy and safety tools on Instagram apply to Instants. It includes block, mute and restrict options.
The feature is also integrated with Instagram Teen Accounts and Instagram Family Center which provide time limits, Sleep Mode and parental supervision for teen users.
