ASUS Philippines has announced that both the Nexus 7 (2013), as well as its predecessor, the first gen Google Nexus 7, are among the first batch of devices that will receive the Android 5.0 update.
According to the company’s press release, the Android 5.0 update is expected to bring software-based improvements on both of these tablets which include OS’ “Material Design” scheme, as well as giving these slates an added layer of protection against malware and theft.
The Android Lollipop update will also add Bluetooth Smart to the tablets’ arsenal. This feature reduces the energy consumption when scanning and pairing with other Bluetooth devices.
ASUS Philippines said that the global roll out of the Android 5.0 for Nexus 7 has already started and users with the Wi-Fi only version should expect it to come any day now. The data-enabled variant, on the other hand, will get the update starting next month.

Sideloaded the OTA packages for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 last week. So far, good performance on both hardware with better battery life. G+ crashes sometimes when brought to the foreground.

I have nothing but problems with my Nexus 7 32gb 2013 bought in Wicked (Widget) City. For the first 5 months, the tablet is okay. But problem started appearing:
1. LCD has some bluish dots and reddish pattern after 6 months.
2. USB port become wobbly and I am not able to charge.
3. Tried wireless charging, after 2 months, it refused to charge again. (happened this week)
I suspected, the Nexus I got is a lemon. I can’t claim my warranty because Widget City refused to issue receipt (lost mine).
Now, my tablet battery is dead.
So long, Nexus 7.
