Google Gemini may soon control apps on Android

Listen to article

Google is expanding Gemini’s agentic features, allowing the AI to perform actions directly on Android apps.

A new report from 9to5Google reveals that Google is testing a feature called “Get tasks done with Gemini”. It is codenamed bonobo which lets Gemini automate tasks using on-screen controls.

The feature will initially roll out through Google Labs and support actions like booking rides and ordering food. For example, users could ask Gemini to book an Uber or order from Uber Eats without opening the apps themselves.

Gemini’s app control will work only with certain apps at launch where it will likely start with food delivery, booking rides and possibly some Google apps. This limitation helps manage frequent app interface changes.

Google notes that screenshots may be reviewed to improve services if activity tracking is enabled. Users will also warned not to enter payment details through Gemini chats.

Gemini’s agentic features may be limited to Pro and Ultra subscribers with a beta launch expected alongside Android 16 QPR3 in March.
