5th Gen iPod Nano with Video and FM Radio

As the iPod nano is the world’s most popular music player (hitting 100 million units), Apple today bumped up its specs along with some minor upgrades on the iPod Classic, Shuffle and iPod Touch.

The 5th-generation iPod Nano now comes in 9 different colors and gets a video camera and FM tuner to boot (they should have added WiFi too if you asked me).

ipod nano

Still at 8GB and 16GB, the Nano retails at Php8,790 and Php10,490.

ipod touch

The iPod Touch, on the other had, was bumped to 64GB. Apple dropped the 16GB model and retained the 8GB for just Php11,490. The 32GB costs Php17,490 and the 64GB at Php23,490. People were actually expecting that it’s the iPod Touch that will have the video camera.

ipod shuffle

The iPod Shuffle now comes in various colors aside from black and silver — they’ve got green, blue, pink and a special polished steel version. The 2GB starts at Php3,290 and the 4GB at Php4,390 (special edition costs Php5,490). Weird that the 4GB Shuffle got a price increase here.

The upgrade from 120GB to 160GB of the iPod Classic is confusing since Apple already had 80GB/160GB before, dropped it then re-introduced it.

iPhone has everything what iPod touch has (music player, wifi, etc). Who’s on a right mind will buy both and use it at the same time? If you want it with phone feature, iPhone’s for you, otherwise iPod touch, duh.
Of course kailangan din mabenta nila yun.

Is it really worth it to buy an Ipod?

Aside from not officially supporting Open formats like Ogg Vorbis ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogg_vorbis ) and FLAC ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flac ), Ipods are ridiculously expensive compared to their equal or better-featured Cowon and iriver (among other portable media players) counterparts. Plus, you have to use that bloated software, iTunes with it.

Some portable media players brand that support Open formats:

ipod touch is really bulky, as in “big” for mp3 player, iphone can do that, the prices are nearly the same, or buy an ipod nano 5th gen instead, very handy.

can you imagine yourself, using your iphone and itouch at the same time in public, come on, who do you think you are!? ang jologs mo naman… at least if ur using and ipod nano, u can just hide it in your pocket and it looks more descent. hate me or love me, i dont care.

it has now a built-in speaker so that you can listen to musics even w/out putting the earphones, fm radio, longer screen, better battery life, and even video camera hd w/mic, and most of all, for me this is affordable. why not accept the fact that this is a cool gadget, instead of complaining every now and then.

you dont need a photo camera for this thing, buy a digicam instead, dont expect too much from this small thingy, complaining also about zooming, come on, thats b.s. remember, every product has its own unique features.

what else could you ask for. if you cant afford it, dont buy it, period.

Di na nilagyan ng cam yung touch kasi makakain na nya yung features ng iPhone.

i think nano would boosts it sales with the features they added although i doubt if it’s video recording capability will be used that much (maybe for on-the-spur ninja moments).

iPod touch 8GB will probably ignored now. 32GB sounds attractive at that price point considering 16GB 2G had almost the same price as before.

Several surprises on the new iPods. But a good announcement on this “weak” Apple conference is the new iTunes 9. The App management looks really good.

no camera for the Touch! =(

I’d like to play with the touch-focus function with a capacitative touchscreen without having to buy the iPhone. Oh well, i think i’d have to wait. Good thing I didn’t sell my old iPod Touch 2G for a 3G.

    Great work, Nano!

Well, Apple had been a disappointment lately with their minor “upgrades” to their product lines and a lot of excuses for not featuring this on that. A Nano can take videos and have voice support while an iPhone 3G can not (officially)??? I guess I’ll be waiting for the next major overhaul for the iPhone probably next year, though I’m not keeping my hopes up (and there’s a hell lot of other promising phones in the horizon). What I am lazily looking forward to after the lackluster Apple event is the firmware upgrade of iTunes (iPhone & iPod touch too) that would make it easier to arrange apps on the phone. Still waiting for my iPhone firmware upgrade to finish. The Apple servers are clogging up again.

It could be a marketing strategy. If they will put the camera on the ipod touch right now, consumers will ignore the ipod nano. But if they will put the camera first on the ipod nano, the nano can boost/retain its sales. Then probably before christmas they could launch the ipod touch with the camera, just in time when people have more money to spend. Hula lang hehe…

Didn’t Steve jobs answer that already?

iPod nano is the world’s most popular music player with over 100 million sold. And now we’ve added a video camera to its incredibly thin design, without any additional cost to the user.
