With over a dozen netbook brands available in the Philippines today, it’s pretty harder to pick a model compared to a year ago. It’s good though — the more, the better — competition drives innovation up and prices down.
My latest entry on the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic sparked a nice little debate on people’s preference and usage behavior between WiFi and 3G on mobile phones.
This week, our survey covers the micro-blogging service Plurk and Twitter. According to stats shown by Google Trends, the Philippines is ranked #3 visitor of Plurk.com worldwide.
There was some theory going around that major phone manufacturers had to introduce brand new phone models every so often because survey says the average lifetime of a phone in the hands of consumers is about 8 months.
A lot of middle to high-end phones being sold nowadays come with GPS and/or A-GPS support and I wondered if people really use them at all.
Ever since I got a postpaid account for my iPhone 3G, my monthly cellphone bills have doubled (maybe even tripled) in the last couple of months. It used to be less than Php300 for each of my 2 mobile phones.

Reports say that the iPod Nano is the most popular of all the Apple media player line. That’s maybe because when it first came out, it was the cheapest iPod at that time. Now that there are more than half a dozen models, I’d like to see which iPod people buy.
With so many plans and options to get mobile 3G, I wonder which one tops the list for most internet users. I’ve counted over half a dozen ways to hook up on mobile 3G — our next poll asks which one do you often use?
At least half a dozen ultraportable laptops are now available for sale in the Philippines. As supply increases demand will likely go down. Asus is no longer the only player in the UMPC niche but it has successfully manage to grab the most exposure — all the rest becomes just another “Asus EeePC-killer”.
According to our recent poll on antivirus, AVG came on top of the heap followed by Nod32 and Avast. From over 220 respondents, AVG was actively used by just over 25%. See chart after the jump.
I just ended the previous poll and it looks like AMD is still popular among desktop PC users. Our new poll is for those owning a laptop or notebook. Which brand of laptop are you using?
Last month, I upgraded my old desktop PC. I have been a longtime AMD fan and for the last 5 years or so, have used almost all of their CPUs — Athlon, Sempron, AMD64+, and the X2. Even most of the dedicated servers I get runs AMD Opteron CPUs. They’re cheaper and does the job just fine.

As reflected in the global market, Nokia dominates the pack in our recent survey on mobile phones. The results of the poll were really interesting although it was pretty obvious from the start who would win.
Anybody here still remembers that ThunderByte antivirus from late 90s? It was one of the most powerful of the batch back then because it had heuristic features that can identify and cure even unknown viruses. Our poll for the week is to survey which anti-virus programs people are using nowadays.
