GCash will soon let users link Visa, Mastercard cards directly for QR payments

GCash will soon let users link their Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards directly to their accounts for Scan-to-Pay transactions. This turns those cards into a fund source for QR purchases, eliminating the need to cash in first.

Users can link up to three Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cards to their accounts. Options include setting a default payment card and managing or unlinking cards directly through the app.

GCash will authenticate card linking through a one-time password (OTP), while it will secure eligible transactions using biometrics or a phone PIN where available.

“As we prepare to roll out this feature, we remain committed to giving Filipinos the freedom to pay their way with ultimate convenience and total peace of mind,” said Ren-ren Reyes, President & CEO of G-Xchange, Inc., the mobile wallet operator of GCash.

GCash expects to roll out direct Visa and Mastercard card-linking nationwide within August. There’s no mention of NFC support, so this feature appears limited to QR transactions for now.
