Perhaps the more exciting news during Xiaomi’s latest press event, apart from the announcement of their new devices, is the reveal of the global release of their MIUI 9 ROM and the list of devices that’ll receive the update. MIUI 9 was first released in China along with the Mi 5X last July (see the article with features here).
Here are some of the highlights of Xiaomi’s newest UI:
- Mi Drop — an app that will allow the transfer of files between devices without the use of an internet connection.
- Three new notification styles — Multiple, Bundling Notification, Quick Replies
- Split Screen functionality
- A new photo editing tool with smart removal
- Mi Video — an app which supports most video formats and comes with an auto group function

- Mi Mix 2, Mi Note 3, Mi 6, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 5A, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1s

- Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi 4A
2015 Handsets:
- Mi Note, Mi 4i, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 4G Prime, Redmi Note 2
2014 Handsets:
- Mi 4 and Redmi Note 4G
2013 and 2012 Handsets:
- Mi 3 and Mi 2
The beta for the software is now out with the Stable Release slated in early November for the Redmi note 4, Mi Mix 2 and Mi Max 2.
