Corning has unveiled the newest glass protection for affordable smartphones: the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

According to Corning, the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i is made to cater to budget-friendly smartphones. This is to ensure that the device has improved drop protection and scratch resistance.

It is said that the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i has handled up to one meter drops on surfaces similar to asphalt. The company also stated that the Gorilla Glass 7i is twice more scratch resistant than other lithium aluminosilicate cover glasses.

There is no official announcement on what device will have the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i equipped.
