Facebook has just announced that they are serious about eliminating fake or dummy accounts on their platform especially those that promote false news, hoaxes, and misinformation.
The leading social media company stated that they are in in the process of rolling out changes to its technical systems to make it harder to create and maintain fake accounts. Behavioral patterns such as multiple posts of identical content and increase in messages sent or spamming are big factors for consideration.
“We’ve made improvements to recognize these inauthentic accounts more easily by identifying patterns of activity — without assessing the content itself. For example, our systems may detect repeated posting of the same content, or an increase in messages sent.” Shabnam Shaik, Facebook’s Technical Program Manager on the Protect and Care Team, said in the post.
As an example, Facebook took down 30,000 fake accounts in France. Top priority is to remove accounts with a large reach and high amount of activity on the platform. You may read the blog post and get additional information on Facebook’s anti-fake account campaign through the source link below.
