Google has launched its desktop app for Windows, bringing its AI-powered search experience beyond the browser and directly into the operating system.

The app integrates Google’s AI Mode into Windows, allowing users to search the web, files, and apps using natural language without opening a browser.
The app opens through a keyboard shortcut, displaying a floating search interface where users can type questions and receive AI-generated answers along with relevant web results.
It also expands search capabilities beyond the web, enabling users to find local files, installed apps, and cloud content from Google Drive in one place.
Additional features include Google Lens and screen context tools, allowing users to ask questions about what’s currently on their screen, whether it’s a specific window or the entire display.
Google’s new desktop experience is powered by its Gemini AI system, which is designed to provide more contextual and conversational responses.
The interface is similar to system-wide search tools like Spotlight, signaling a shift toward integrating AI deeper into everyday desktop workflows.
The app is currently available for Windows 10 and newer devices, supports users aged 13 and above, and is limited to English for now. Some AI features may not yet be available in all regions or accounts.
