Steam and itch.io have removed adult-rated games from their platforms following updated policies from major payment processors. While Steam followed suit, the platform only removed hundreds of titles with themes including slavery or incest. Steam still allows games with adult content, but is now compliant towards the new payment regulations. For now, most general adult games on Steam remain available. Following the success of Stellar Blade on Steam, which became available in non-PSN regions after direct developer intervention, more Sony-published games are now accessible without the need for workarounds. The update also comes just ahead of Steam’s upcoming sale on June 26. Additionally, Steam still blocks access to Sony games in seven countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, and Vietnam. Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine and Vietnam’s 2024 ban on Steam over licensing issues are likely reasons for the continued block.
