HUAWEI MatePad 12 X (2026) Review
Found this 7-inch Acer Iconia A100 Honeycomb tablet in one of the stores in Mongkok yesterday. It’s one of those rare finds among the dozen or so tablets available locally.
The retail price was something in the range of Php19,000 when converted from HK dollars (the sales guy would not allow me to take a photo when he saw my Canon S95 but quickly positioned my iPhone 4 to get this shot).
The Iconia A100 still resembles the design and specs of its big brother, the Iconia A500. Initial impression of the performance is very similar it the A500.

The tablet is a little thick, like its 10-inch brother, at 13.1mm. The weight (470g) is just right but not that light for its size.
Despite the LCD-only display, it looks nice and crisp with great, vivid colors. It looks really nice too. I wasn’t able to play a lot with it so I wasn’t able to check video quality and camera. This is the WiFi-only model and not sure if they do a 3G version as well. So far, of over a two dozen gadget stores we visited, this is the only one that was carrying the Iconia A100 which means it’s just starting to be shipped into HK and thus the somewhat steep pricing. I reckon it would go down to as much as Php15k in the smaller, corner stores when larger shipments arrive.

i have a demo unit from acer for Acer Iconia A101, and i think it will cost almost 24k here.
Android 3.2 has a nice and very impressive UI…. but in think its downside is the battery…

Nakaka-dissapoint talaga Acer kasi ayaw pa nila mag-IPS panel. For sure its one reason why they are cheaper than other brands, just like with the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. Well at least this is one better alternative tablet rather than buying those A-PAD or alike tablets.

I’m giving mine away for Php 17K. exact same specs as the one posted above. used it only for a week and I can say that the size and weight are perfect for someone on the go. battery lasts roughly 6-7 hours, wifi always on and some browsing. watching vids got me around 5 hours. for mobility at home I guess this works. works well with Plex Media Player (since I have server for streaming media to my devices). size for browsing is good enough. Tegra games look awesome!
only drawback might be the viewing angle when on landscape mode. image ain’t pretty when tilted. home button is a bit prone to accidental presses when on landscape mode.
between the A500 and A100 (I have both), the A100 is perfect for mobility for its size and weight…good for connecting/controlling other devices at home (which I often do).

Absolutely terrible battery life. Anyone who’s smart enough and willing to get something more or less than a 7″ will get the Archos 80 G9. It packs a lot more juice, and a lot more firepower, and it’s thinner too (for the flash mem version).
What the hell was Acer thinking with that measly 1530 MAh battery?! Samsung’s Galaxy S 5.0 Wifi even has a 2500 MAh battery and it’s 5″!!!
