Blackberry Storm: RIM sheds the keypad

When the iPhone 3G got an upgrade to support MS Exchange, it became a greater threat to enterprise users esp. the Blackberry users. RIM fought back and introduced its first touch screen device — the Blackberry Strom (9530).

That’s despite the fact that back in June 2008, Blackberries were selling more than twice as many as the iPhone 3G. RIM doesn’t want to slack while Apple plays catch-up.

blackberry touch screen 9500

Touch Screen Navigation
480 x 360 pixel color display (with light-sensing screen)
1GB onboard memory
128 flash memory
up to 16GB storage via microSD
RIM wireless modem
CDMA/Ev-DO
UMTS/HSPA
Built-in GPS
3.2 MP camera with video
Bluetooth
3.5mm stereo headset jack

The Blackberry Storm (13.95mm) is less than 2-millimeter thicker than the iPhone 3G (12.3mm) and weighs 22grams heavier.

It also has mobile streaming, allows tethering to your laptop to share internet and can sync your desktop iTunes music files using BlackBerry Media Sync. You can view and edit MS Office files too.

The top feature of Blackberry is the full suite of email connectivity and management — MS Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise as well as enterprise email account and personal email accounts — that trumps MobileMe by a mile.

    @Juneau21
BlackBerry phones are available here, but they are sold directly through Globe and Smart. Best to ask them. I believe that for personal plans, you need to be on high plans though. For corporate accounts, you can get them on lower plans.

Juneau21: I think some Blackberry phones are sold in one of the stores at Trinoma, that section on the 2nd floor where the computers, Smart wireless center & cd-r king (among others) can be found. I asked about the Blackberry bold & they said they didn’t have it (yet), but that was some months ago. Just thought you should know. =)

I have a blackberry storm myself and it’s AWESOMEEE! I mean, I would trade an iphone [if i had one], for a blackberry storm. It’s just way cooler than iphone. A lot of people here in the States return their Blackberry Storms because they don’t know how to use them. It’s like difficult to send a text message or call people. I got mine like 2 days ago, and I’m used to it by now. It’s not that hard to use this product.
I have a hard case too, and a protective paper or something. plastic? yeah. I mean, it’s pretty expensive, just the plan itself.. [I have to pay $30 more every month on top of my plan which is $150 something.] But it’s worth it. I love my Storm.
Verizon Wireless [like Globe, Smart in the States] had a promo and thats why I bought it. It came with a 8 gb memory card. come on! 8GB!!!! dude, thats already worth $40. plus the phone. it was originally $400 or $500. I got mine for $250. Car charger, ordinary charger, with lots of adapters, earphones. mic and stuff. It’s a great deal. I mean, I wish you guys in the Philippines could have this promo too. I just fell in love with it the moment I saw it.
And my new Storm hasn’t let me down. I mean, I just bought it two days ago soo. =]

Oh, and my sister told me that you could buy Storm in the Philippines. I just don’t know where.

Three way calling, visual voicemail. Okay, the coolest thing about the Storm is the visual voicemail. You can see calls you missed, whose it from and stuff. So you don’t have to guess who it’s from. Normal phones don’t work that way. Just Blackberry Storm. I’m not sure if in the Philippines, if you guys have voicemails. It’s just an awesome product.

Can anyone pls. share some information where in the Philippines can I possibly scout for the cost and buy a blackberry storm product?

Also, just wanna know how much is one in Philippine peso? Or if anyone has any idea here, will it cost you lesser to buy outside the Philippines say in HK than here?

Many thanks for your response. :-))

How much would the Blackberry 9530 cost in today’s Philippine Market compared to the iPhone 3G? I’m currently deciding which would cost less in terms of the unit itself and its plans on Globe.

Your help would be very much appreciated. Thank You.
