MSI GT660 Gaming Laptop Unboxed

MSI sent in their brand new laptop today and it’s not just any other laptop — it’s the MSI GT660 gaming laptop running a Core i7 processor. Go see the unboxing photos after the jump.

The laptop came in with this huge packaging. Even the battery pack too — at 7800mAh (8-cell?); and the charger looks like a heavy piece of brick.

The lid is shaped/designed to look like the hood of a car (Mazda 3 look-alike) with the logo of the MSI glowing/lighted when the laptop is powered on.

The MSI GT660 has the following specs:
16″ display screen @ 1366×768 pixels
Intel Core i7 720QM @ 1.60GHZ (4 cores, 8 threads)
NVidia GeForce GTX 285M 1GB DDR3
6GB DDR3 RAM (3 x 2GB Dual Channel)
2 x 500GB Seagate SATA (1TB total)
DVD+RW
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
2 x USB 2.0 ports
2 x USB 3.0 ports
1 x HDMI port
1 x eSATA port

The keyboard’s got chiclet-type keys with extra numeric keypad on the right side, a large textured (honeycomb) wristpad and two huge audio speakers powered by DynaAudio.

For perspective, I’ve placed the GT660 beside my 11.6″ ULV notebook here and you can see the difference between the screen real estate of the two units.

Will be playing around with this first and do the usual benchmarks to share with you all. (Update: The suggested retail price of the MSI GT660 is Php109,995.)

Hope it has a good cooling system and battery life.
    Also that keyboard looks nice.

  4. Intel Core i7 + NVidia GeForce GTX 285M 1GB DDR3, nice.. pang gaming talaga ito. Add the 16″ display screen, pwedeng pwede! :)

  5. not really more “real estate”, screen’s a measly 1366×768 reso.

  6. Unusual display resolution for gaming laptop..

  7. My man,
I am a 100% RELIGIOUS follower of the Yugatech Blog. I love how in-depth you are with reviews and what not. One thing I have a very peculiar knack about is your grammar. I am hereby offering my PROOFREADING services free of charge, for all your upcoming posts just as long as your grammar is correct and your use of subject-verb is spot-on. Just send me your posts before posting them on the blog, and I would glady proof-read them for you for any grammatical, punctuation or spelling errors.

  8. nice laptop but the resolution would be better if its full hd…btw sir yuga’s grammar may not be always perfect but we dont mind as long as we got info on the latest gadgets and tech news…this is a tech blog not literature or about poetry..anyway its a nice gesture on you part offering your services for free….

  9. nice gaming laptop! i wonder how much it will cost in the Philippines.

I agree with Janbass, but maybe sir abe is too excited to post his blogs thats why sometimes his grammar gets in trouble. Would be nice also if janbass will offer his services to me. Mukhang kinulang ako sa English class during school days, thanks and peace to all!

  10. @janbass – thanks for pointing that out. was writing this in a rush during our photog class last night and never got to read it again after hitting the publish button. Until now. Let me know if I missed something else.

  11. niceeeeeee! and the price will kill anyone touching it! :)

  12. Can’t wait for the review. Particularly about the battery life and cooling issues.

  13. mukhang mas-mahal ang MSI kaysa iba nowadays

  14. mashado siyang mahal for the specs..check niyo yung ibang gaming laptops sa isang sikat na buy and sell website.

  15. Sana may bumato sakin nito kahit magkabukol pa okay lang

  16. 100k+ SRP??
Ouch! with 100k I’d rather get a Dell XPS :)

  17. Hi peeps! I’m also a bit disappointed at the 1366 resolution, but I put this aside due to the fact na *gaming* laptop sya, I’ll take higher fps over more desktop real estate anytime for a gaming machine. Less pixels = more speed from the *GTX285*. I’ll type that again mga friends GTX285 – in a laptop. *pause*
I called up a friend of mine who works for the local distributor and got some other juicy tidbits: the memory system has 3 slots (triple channel), and there are two hard drives – 2 x 500GB in RAID. Oh yeah, sir yuga, I think the 109k SRP is for the version with a Blu Ray Writer, also accdng to my friend – not a plain dvd writer. please do check ^_^

PS: anong tsikot un? pabili din!

    • @charles – cge will double check when I get back. Out of country pa ako e.

  18. I’d rather go for the Asus G51 or maybe the upcoming G53!
Full HD over 768 any day. I really wonder, all that gaming power (i7 and the powerful 285 vidcard) but that small of a resolution? hmm..at 110k it’s not exactly a bargain. :| Just my 2 cents!! Although it’s nice looking and well spec-ed on the inside!

  19. Haleerrrrr ang Mahal naman. its Php109,995. Ibili ko nalang ng kotse

  20. may matinding competition to ung asus g73jh or g73jw
mas maganda specs and performance pero mas gusto ko style and design nito, sa asus nmn ung heating or cooling solution ang maganda sana ma review mo rin ung asus na g73jw.

  21. There are certainly loads of particulars like that to take into consideration. That is a great level to deliver up. I provide the ideas above as general inspiration however clearly there are questions like the one you convey up the place a very powerful thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged round issues like that, however I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the affect of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

  22. Would you be fascinated about exchanging links?

  23. KUYA PEDE MO BA IPOST UN BUDGET GAMING LAPTOP NA PRICE 15K PABABA….
