Globe caps SuperSurf at 800MB per day

So I looked at how Globe does their capping for unlimited mobile internet (SuperSurf) and found out that their Fair Use Policy has a somewhat similar strategy. Though this time, it’s 800MB per day.

Was wondering at first why they did it on a daily basis instead of monthly then realized that there’s no 30-day SuperSurf for prepaid (just for postpaid).

An 800MB daily cap translates to 24GB per month (30 days) so that seems reasonable. I guess their tagline “Walang Metro” only applies to the time-based not not really the bandwidth.

However, unlike Smart’s Fair Use Policy which throttles you down to a slower speed, Globe’s SuperSurf will totally disconnect you to their network when you reach the daily limit. You can go back and surf again the following day, when your 800MB quota will be refreshed.

  1. seems fair enough, 800mb a day is more than sufficient.

  2. wala metro kasi disconnected so meter is not running,
nice slogan by Globe, di na sila nahiya!

  3. I’ve been using globe tattoo/supersurf and I thought that this 800MB cap was an inconvenience, pero reading your post about Smart Sir Abe, parang mas ok pa rin ang globe!

When you’re registered to supersurf50 (that’s for 1 day) and you reach the 800mb limit, you can just “unregister” and use the internet on their normal, metered rates. Don’t know what will happen if you’re registered for more than 1 day and you reach the day’s limit.

  4. Again, kinda misleading. They should just say it outright. P50/day for 800mb.

  5. but if you max out your cap per day ay hindi ka na maka-connect, after 24 hours pa ulit.

  6. Boo. What’s SUN’s cap on it’s unlimited internet?

  7. I’d like to remind people that 800mb is hardly a lot bandwidth for one day. You can easily get that much if you’re going to download a simple game client to play online games.

  8. Ok ung sa globe 800mb per day,but if you want to download m0re stuff you need to wait for the 12am in the midnight to be able to browse again

  9. Sir Yuga, how come the title of your review for this is: Canon Powershot S95 Review? lol :)

    • Bug with WordPress App on the iPhone. Fixed it na.

    • @alexei – i don’t think it makes sense to download an 800MB file on your phoje. the biggest i have downloaded ia like 60MB.

  10. @Abe, when you mention mobile internet here, are you just talking about the internet you use with your usual call & text line or does this also encompass Globe’s Tattoo Broadband / SmartBro prepaid?

From the looks of the Smart cap, mobile browsing would pertain to the likes of Smart Buddy and Smart Gold. Not to SmartBro because the expected usage here is totally different. I would assume that the cap for Globe is also just meant for the net that comes with Globe’s prepaid/postpaid call&text lines. Globe Broadband would have a totally different usage altogether.

    • @charo – i think for Smart, SmartBro is not under mobile internet category. For Globe, I think the cap includes both mobile internet and Tattoo since both are under SuperSurf. Globe Broadband has different cap. Around 15GB to 25GB per month.

  12. @frozenpyro
Totally agree with you. I have had several run-ins with Globe about their so-called unlimited surfing, and some of my emails apparently even made it as far as middle management. The last time I was in contact with them (a few months ago) was when they disconnected my prepaid Tattoo SIM without even warning me because they said I went over their limit on the unlimited service. Of course, I threatened to sue them and to report them to the Ad Standards Council, but unfortunately never got around to it.

Well, pasok pa rin naman yata ang complaints ko sa statute of limitations ng violation nila (as far as I know; will have to check, though) and I downloaded the pages on their site, so wala silang ligtas if I decide to push through with a lawsuit or a formal complaint.

  13. From 2GB TO 1GB and now it came up to 800MB a day.

internet freedom means free internet access!

  15. Mas ok naman to kesa sa SMART at SUN. Grabe. Thanks

  16. Technically, you can stretch the Globe Tattoo capping from 800mb to 1,600 Mb per day. That is if you’ll load at some point of the day, say at 12pm, you’ll be able to surf and download for 800 Mb before Globe temporarily stops your subscription. Then, when midnight comes, you’ll be able to start surfing and downloading again till 12pm the next day as your subscription will be terminated on that time whether you reach another 800 Mb or not for the next day.

At this point, you could load and register for another SUPERSURF50 run and basically just do the same till the next day.

I know this because I am experiencing it first hand and daily with my prepaid Globe Tattoo on my laptop.

I use to get furious about Globe capping my Prepaid Internet Connection but after reading Smart’s way of capping, I guess I have to settle with the “lesser evil.” ;-)

  17. Oh, just a tip… It’s Youtube and other flash related websites which sucks the most from your 800 Mb limitation.

  18. @daninjakitten

a limit to their unlimited service? the irony..

  19. This is the reason why I sold m Globe Tattoo. I’m now with Sun, which is not any better. Crawling speeds…

  20. I want to try the sun unlimited broadband next time
sana naman mas ok and d madalas mawalan ng signal bars everytime i use myglobe tatto0 usb broadband”,

  21. @mindyq
cge gumamit ka ng dsl while driving, at the school, mall etc.

  22. i was locked out twice, when i downloaded ubuntu and then when i installed programs. I used 2 sims for it. So i guess their tv commercial is not exactly true

  23. Not happening on me on Postpaid SUPERSURF which is 1,200 on top my bill. I’m using iPhone internet tethering to my MacBook. I downloaded more than 15GB a day. Speed still up to 3Mbps and i get about 2.5Mbps.

  24. For Prepaid. You can just unregister your current terminated SuperSurf subscription then register again to get another 800MB. Its like 50pesos/800MB.

  25. 800 MB is pretty small these days. What if whole day kang online – I’m sure you can consume more than the 800 MB cap.

  26. im under a postpaid blackberry unlimtd service i consume around 1gb perday for tehtering, not experiencing cap…i guess its a different issue for postpaid..

P200/gb.. tas good for 1month pa yun.

  29. just compare globe, smart and sun to a succubus that would suck the fun out from websurfing…
as for me, i am happy with my landline dsl plan.. although it is expensive and i cant connect while on the road, but its internet speed is consistent. so what if i cant connect while on the road, do i really need to watch a youtube video or update my facebook with my ipad or nokia c3 while in edsa??? wala pa akong balak magpakamatay sa kamay ng holdaper.

  30. Due to the limited frequencies assigned to Globe and other telcos, you should not expect to have unlimited data downloads. Unlimited here means you can stay online indefinitely while you are subscribed to the “unlimited” service and haven’t gotten over the maximum bandwidth (sounds ironic).

Mobile telco’s aren’t designed to accomodate heavy downloads. If you are a heavy user, it’s better to have a wired connection.

  31. @neo
wait, mas maganda ang smart? Mas maganda ang 1.5Gb limit per month vs 800 Mb limit per day? Really?

  32. @lolipop
the 1.5gb from smart only applies for their postpaid galaxy tab and n8 unli internet plans.
    doesnt apply for prepaid.

and besides as yuga states he only discovered it at the smart website. he didnt experienced it first hand. also who knows if its implemented now.

They shouldnt call it unlimited kase sobrang liit nyan. pwede pa unlimited similar with web hosting companies na 999999mb ayan pwede yan tawagin unlimitied pero yung 800mb at 1.5G is useless lalo na ngayun.

In 2011 dadami pa ang mobile device users since lahat ng tech. papunta dun. maiiwan na ang desktop and laptops since mobile users will most likely use their mobile devices for instant research for, restaurants, friends, shopping, travel etc. less hassle kesa ilalabas mo pa ang laptop mo or notebook mo para lang mag google.

  34. solution:
use “opera turbo” feature in opera browser. i’m sure that you’ll get lower bandwidth since opera turbo compresses all images when you browse the internet.
at least, this is a way for extending your browsing life.

  35. I support CAPS! lol

Seriously, better than then network congestion.

  36. experienced the hard and expensive way during the first 2 weeks of using globe tattoo prepaid on my newly bought pc after the free 125 hours promo. many times ive experienced the 800mb cap even without youtube and p2p. sometimes 2 – 3 minutes surfing , nagiging 10mb na agad especially if naka 1.4-1.9mbps and dl speed. what i did i just disabled shockwave flash player and deactivated windows auto updates and antivirus updates. these 3 were the culprits of why such a huge memory usage after so short period of time. no worry for me since i have deepfreeze installed. now it is back to normal. ave 25-30mb per hour on usual surfing, facebook and ym chat. 800mb/24 hours = roughly 33mb/hour.
for now ill stick to globe tattoo. no choice since globe has a much stronger signal than smart. an earlier post was right. sometimes, the dl speed spikes up to 2.4-3mbps. in my area, the signal is hsdpa with ave dl speed 1.2-1.9mbps average. the actual dl speed ive got ranges from 140 – 195 kbps (when downloading a file).

suggestion to globe…bring it back to 1gig or higher or much more unlimited after the holidays.

also train your cs to answer queries re fair usage policy on a more natural and professional manner and not scripted. consumers are not dumb these days anymore. and not always use the ntc/fair usage policy excuse.

  37. better use wi-free for your unlimited internet needs. check out my blog. call me at 093265*****. its only 350 per month for unlimited internet EVEN WITHOUT LOAD

    rory

  38. Letseng Globe yan.. kung nasa globe fair policy dapat pagka load mo pa lang super surf 50. nakalagay na yun 800MB cap, first time ko gumamit ng globe tatoo and i was downloading some patches para sa game ko.. nagulat na lang ako biglang nawala ng net … shet naubos na pala 800mb in 3 hrz… WTF….. sana ma lang lang binaba nila kahit 128kbps… i dont think its fair.. what if a restaurant offer bottom less drink… bottomless drink pero bawal mawalan ng icetea yun baso .. pag nawalan na ng icetea.. wala na refill… damnn.. parang ganyan ginagawa ng globe… pls dont make your subscriber stupid… i still thank sun for all their effort kung wala sila.. WALA PA SIGURONG unlimited and smart and GLOBE.. imagine siguro 3 pesos na per txt msg ngayon kung wala ang SUN…

  39. i using globe tatto and aply to unlimited surf for one day tapos bigla nlang na disconect and i call the customer service and they explain thier policy and i said alam ba nyo ang ibig sabihin ng unlimited, nakkagilgil tapat sa ads plang sabihin nila ung totoo.

  40. sana mas maging transparent ang mga company about these matters at hindi ipasa sa mga consumers ung responsibility na idiscover pa ito bago malaman. that’s why I kinda like wi-tribe’s approach, kinda direct at honest. at least walang gaanong tendency to mislead… but service-wise, I’ll still go for globe

  41. Do they have capping on postpaid unli plan?

    -Sent via YugaTech Mobile App

  43. I’ve used globe prepaid during the sign off of NU 107 and I did not make it ’til 12 MN… The cap back then was 1GB and lasted more or less 5 hours of media streaming… now it’s 800 MB… it’s not unlimited after all… it’s deceiving that TelCo’s does not include their Fair Usage Policy in their ads!

  44. i think globe knows that 800mb per day sucks thats why they didnt put it as the name of the promo or even as a slogan of this promo. they knew it themselves that it may cost them the market if the consumers immediately know that it has an 800mb cap, its an obvious turn off.
