Asus Wave Face Concept Design

During the Consumer Electronics Show, a lot of companies would show off stuff from their R&D just to get people talking and fell how much buzz it could draw. Most of the time, these gadgets never go out into the market nor see the light of day after CES. One such concept is the Asus Wave Face Design.

The Waveface Casa is a large widescreen display that acts as both entertainment center and internet portal. When not in use, a flexible, decorative cover obscures most of the screen, only exposing small areas that display contextually-relevant information.

Equipped with a touch-sensitive screen and backed by a soft, flexible material, the Waveface Light is an interface to the cloud that can be used in a conventional screen-keyboard configuration or as a flat, single-screen tablet.

A highly-portable device that can be strapped to one’s wrist, the Waveface Ultra provides anywhere, anytime access to information and services. Its display can be snapped flat to enlarge the viewing area.

These are just prototypes and that folding netbook looks awesome. However, one of the main reasons why we won’t see them in store shelves any time soon is because they’re just too costly to make and too expensive for the market to bear. But let’s give it some 5 to 10 years.

  1. these gadget are awesome!!! my fave is the wrist-type computer..wow,, i thought these technology are still in progress. But, my bad…

  2. wow!!! i hope these gadgets will materialize and not just remain in concept…

  3. these are really cool concept for a gadget… yeah… we hope to see them at a very friendly price in the near future.

Here some concept design for a laptops.

Opersonal tech by Ben Heck, not sure if you can call it a laptop or this could be the real gaming laptop.

This one is called rolltop to better describe is than the name laptop.

  4. is that wrist device also a cellphone? saw a “2 missed call” sentence beside the watch display. :D
This one’s pretty cool! I remember my dad bought a Casio digital watch (1990s) that has a small keyboard in it. But as far as I remember, that watch’s keyboard can only be used as a calculator or something HAHA
Oh technology really improved since those times :D

  5. Interesting take on what the future of consumer electronics will be. I just hope it won’t take a decade or even a half decade to have these on our hands!

  6. Cool concept but let’s face it, there’s only a really, really slim chance this would be materialized in our reality.

  7. Well, actually it’s already materialized. It’s just a matter of lowering the costs and with new technologies coming out on a monthly basis, I think the cost will be down in 5 to 10 years as Yuga predicted.

It’s basically a proof of concept, it can be done. However, I think that the final product will look a lot different than this one as they continue to develop and innovate.

    Nice find Yuga!

  8. wants that Wave Face Ultra

Imagines combining that with a phone + headset via Bluetooth for receiving messages and sending commands.

  10. yeah.. it’s just the materials uses are not yet mass produced that is why the cost is really really really high. Just like what happened to iphone… at first materials used where too high, since the demand is low, then when the production like starts to run… the material cost starts to go down, that’s why you will see a significant price difference between the 1st gen and the current model of iphones. Same as with these babies… let’s just hope that it will go down faster than the 5 year period that yuga predicted.

Just like this experimental chip from intel… imagine using a desktop that has 48 core!!!
