Samsung Galaxy S2 vs. HTC Sensation

So now that two of the top dual-core smartphones are coming to the Philippines this June, we ask you to pick your favorite with the suggested retail price in mind. Let’s pit the HTC Sensation vs. the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 after the jump.

Both handsets are great and are considered to be on top of the ranks of smartphones. Here’s our tabular comparison between the two smartphones.

The clincher here really is the suggested retail price of the two — the HTC Sensation is Php3k more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S2. However, the Php29,990 price of the SGS2 is probably subsidized by Globe which has exclusive distribution of the handset for the first month or so.

Blah.. ip4 for the win..! Htc non sense n samsung intergalactica andomeda. Pagbinenta mo ng second hand no value na.. Unlike ip4 high appraisal in demand pa.. More fun apps pa..

iphones are for idiots who want to look smart. iphone have lots of applications that are useful to their “not-so-smart” or not smart at all owners. if you come to think of it, most of apple apps are really not for smart people. they just have the semblance of “smartness” so to speak. i should know, i got one as a gift but soon realized i rarely use it. is use more instead my ? (i dont want to promote a brand – after all im no fan of any brand) but in fairness to iphone fans, an iphone kinda makes you look cool. it gets you the “wow!-he-has-an-iphone” look from others. so i guess iphones are coolphones or displayphones and it gives a different kind of satisfaction. but smart? oh, let’s leave it at cool. i wished i got instead an ebook reader (from sony, if possible) coz that would have made me a lot happier.

SGSII still for the win! internal memory plang eh grabe na lamang 16gb against 1 gb? kahit na sabhn na pwede micro sd laki pa rin ng gap

I don’t give a @#%&: whatever you all say. I want Samsung galaxy s2 and I’m effin getting myself one. Crap can’t wait

    It’s a no-brainer. SGS2 gets my vote.

HTC screen doesn’t do better than Super AMOLED, lalo na’t Super AMOLED Plus na ang SGS2.

Whatever the other guys reasons are (yellow tint or whatever), specs-wise, SGS2 wins.

    Specs – SGS2
    Price – SGS2

So, what’s the upper hand of HTC? Sense? Really?

anyway, kahit sinasabi kong di maganda ang quality ng samsung, ILL STILL GO FOR SGS2.

    but…

actually, im waiting for the galaxy tab 8.9 =)

suckers lang daw bumibili ng SGS2 e hehe (see post on another article) peace tayong lahat, phone lang yan

    • Avatar for john john says:

medyo totoo naman.. haha, tignan mo ang sony TV kahit di hamak na mas maganda ang Samsung, pero Sony TV parin ang the best.. why? quality kasi. pang matagalan.

anyway, unlike sa TV, OK lang naman yan.. since wala pang 1 year, laos na agad yan.. SGS3 na ang USO. LOL

“anyway, unlike sa TV, OK lang naman yan.. since wala pang 1 year, laos na agad yan.. SGS3 na ang USO. LOL”

i beg to disagree sa laos part. many fail to see that the galaxy line is Samsung’s flagship line, meaning it’s their line that would compete with the iPhone line. And like the iPhone line, kahit may iPhone 4 na, ang iPhone 3gs hindi parin dinedepreciate ng Apple ang value niya (i.e. iOS 5 will be compatible with it)

And this kind of treatment to the galaxy line can also be anticipated (see: gingerbread update of Galaxy S). Oo, mabilis maglabas ng new and improved gadgets ang Samsung and other phone developers pero hindi basta basta pababayaan ang phones under the FLAGSHIP line of each company (Optimus line, Galaxy Line, Xperia line, etc)

haven’t really decided on what to purchase, will wait for another month or two and read more user-feedback/reviews from pinoy consumers and for the price to drop.

SGSII wins in terms of performance and specs, however can you really tell the difference between the two with our network’s current status? i’m speaking of mobile internet here

but i’m more inclined to buying sensation simply because of its premium build design & quality and its sense UI.

    • Avatar for Raffy Raffy says:

I don’t get it how you’d justify buying a device based on the current status of the network providers here in this country. Sabi nga nila, di pa ganun kalawak ang hspa+ networks dito kaya kung gayun e di, wala kang pipiliin sa dalawa. I don’t limit my purchases based on current standards. Kung kaya nya mas mabilis at a lesser price why not?

Based on engadgrt’s review, the Sensation wins out on resolution but loses out by a big margin when it comes to quality and the sheer feeling of luxury that the SGS2 provides. SGS2 offers more brilliant display, is more responsive and offers snappier performance than Sensation.

htc sensation… meron xang originlity in terms of design. unlike s samsung slightly pareho cla ng iphone4. bout the specs i dont care as long n mkakareceive ako ng msgs at calls ok n un. terms of net connectioon i dont care too… madami nmn wifi spots n mabilis atmeron din mabagal lalo n pag madami nkikishare depende din sa network…nsa pinas tayo kya wag n umarte kung ano ibinbigay ng network ng conection in terms of camera as long as ngbibigay ng descent pics ok n…. if like mo ung maganda shots edi bumili k n lng ng slr.. wag mo n sayangin pagbili mo n smartfone…

    • Avatar for Denz D. Naitawei Denz D. Naitawei says:

It’s funny how your post seem to indicate that you’d settle for anything mediocre and “wag na umarte”, pero ok lang sa yo ang mas mahal. Sabi mo nga “wag mo n sayangin pagbili mo n smartfone…”

@denz- tama k idd settle for anything.as for my statemen “if like mo ung maganda shots edi bumili k n lng ng slr.. wag mo n sayangin pagbili mo n smartfone”. tama nmn db??? may mga tao dyan n kya bumibili ng smartfone dahil sa megapixel n binibigay ng cam,id say slr n lng bilhin db?

@kwan i agree iba iba needs natin… again refer to the question stated above by mr abe.

@karl yes tama k n htc halos same lng mga designs ng mga devices nila… ang sinsabi ko is between samsunggx2 and htc sensation, mas mukhang ip4 ung samsung

@yogs do you? … n try mo n bang gamitin at ikumpara gamit itong mga devices n ito sa ibang bansa>? mukhang hindi p. all this smartfones are nonsense without wi-fi,3g,4g,lan etc.connection kya im saying with the kind of network conection sa pilipinas hindi mo mama maximize ang lahat ng features n inoofer ng bwat smartfone

again cnsagot ko lng ung tanong “we ask you to pick your favorite with the suggested retail price in mind”

    SGS2!!!

  15. Avatar for ran ran says:

the SGS2 should be clocked at 1.4Ghz.

i dont see how the HTCS wins in quality. it actually performs poorer than the LG Optimus 2x. and theres the death grip issue.

    • Avatar for mikey mikey says:

the sgs2 can be overclocked to 2.0 ghz, i have mine oc’d to a stable 1.5ghz, but really 1.2ghz is more than enough

    • Avatar for William T William T says:

In terms of specs, SII wins by a mile, but the Sensation feels more solid when held, the steel back is much more classy than the plastic back of the S2, just remove the backcover, and you could see how Samsung achieve the thinness, the backcover is paper thin and bends(!) hopefully the plastic is new generation plastic that won’t crack.

The death grip issue is a bummer on the Sensation, but it might not be as much an issue with as Asians, with our smaller hands, which should not cover the upper part of the unit where the antennae (or whatever it’s called) are…

  16. Avatar for dan dan says:

in terms of specs, its the SGS2
but in terms of quality it the HTCS

    • Avatar for mikey mikey says:

quality? since when was qlcd>super amoled+? and since when was 1 gb ram > 768 mb?

      1 gb ram < 768 mb?* :)

    • Avatar for Denz D. Naitawei Denz D. Naitawei says:

and since when was 1gb of internal memory > 16gb of internal memory? Plus the number and speed capacity of the 3G radios together with the price, SGS2 is full of WIN!

    • Avatar for Denz D. Naitawei Denz D. Naitawei says:

While HTC Sensation’s screen isn’t also doing well in the display department on different reviews, despite having Super LCD (540 x 960) PLUS the wi-fi death-grip issue…

Phones have issues in one way or another.

    • Avatar for mikey mikey says:

that issue is not present in all phones. i do not have the yellow tint issue, and under direct sunlight adjusting the brightness fixes it easily. the only “issue” i could think of is that the battery drains really fast (compared to the iphone 4).

true, in terms of quality, HTC parin.

parang china phone ang SGS2 pag hinawakan mo.

pero syempre, laos ang sensation in terms of specs.

    • Avatar for Denz D Naitawei Denz D Naitawei says:

Source? Madaling sabihin yan e. Mas madaling masira sya kesa sa Cherry? Sa E-Touch? Madali din sabihin na sirain ang HTC.

    • Avatar for mine mine says:

Yup,totoo yun. pangit quality ng samsung brand sa phones at appliances nila. Madali lang talaga masira. Yan ung experience ko,thrice na ata ako nagkasamsung then after ilang months magsisismula na yan magloko. Kahit friends ko ganun din.. May friend din ako who is working sa appliance center yun din sinabi. Maraming reklamo sa samsung.

Magaling lang talaga sila sa marketing strategy at mga specs pero ung quality/durability ng products nila parang minadali.

    • Avatar for Rufus Rufus says:

Yup. Totoo ding sirain yung htc.

    • Avatar for William T William T says:

qlcd can be better than Super AMOLED + because it has more pixels (35% more), which could result in sharper texts and better picture quality. But I haven’t seen the Sensation screen so I really can’t compare.

I have seen the Samsung i9003 (Clear LCD), and the Super AMOLED plus (i9100), and the Super AMOLED + color is more saturated and thus looks more colorful, the pictures (I am looking at a clouds Live wallpaper) seems more 3D looking, but in terms of whiteness, the ClearLCD seems whiter.

    • Avatar for ry ry says:

quality? those are specs you are talking–doesn’t mean na if you have good specs it’s quality. Let’s discuss my point. even though they have 8 megapixels cam–HTC’s hardware is inferior you can compare pics taken from both cam–ewan ko ba kung saan sinosource ng HTC yung sa kanila. SG2 is clearly the winner
