When it comes to OPPO’s budget-friendly options, it’s hard to beat what the new A6 lineup offers. Users can choose between the standard A6 and the more capable A6s 5G.
With a starting price of PHP 22,999 for the 6+128GB variant, it’s hard to deny what the OPPO A6s 5G offers. In addition to being affordable, the OPPO A6s 5G is also one tough smartphone. With that, users are sure to get their money’s worth when it comes to the phone’s longevity.
We’ve been using the A6s 5G for a while, and so far, here’s what we’ve enjoyed about it.
One tough but stylish smartphone
Perhaps our favorite aspect of the OPPO A6s is that it’s a very tough smartphone for its price point.

The OPPO A6s features an IP68 and IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, which is a feature not commonly found on smartphones in this segment. More often than not, these usually have an IP67 rating at most.
With that, we didn’t have to worry about using this phone wherever we went, no matter the weather conditions. We could even use it underwater, and it wouldn’t be a problem at all. OPPO claims this phone can be submerged underwater for up to 30 minutes. We tried it, and not surprisingly, it still works without any issues.

So if we want to watch videos while showering or take photos in the rain, the OPPO A6s can take it all. Of course, as always, salt water is a completely different issue.
What we also liked is that OPPO didn’t sacrifice the aesthetics of the phone to give it high levels of protection. It looks great in this Ice White color that features a wave-like motif throughout the back panel.
The nice design makes the OPPO A6s look a lot more premium compared to its price point. Not to mention it’s sturdy too. No bending whatsoever, even if we put some force into it.

It’s ergonomic to use as well, with the power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner and volume rocker easily accessible with one hand. Even for users with smaller hands, they can handle it without a problem.
Investing in a smartphone that will last years

There’s no doubt we were quite surprised at what the OPPO A6s can do. It’s not the most powerful, but it is very rugged. Submerge it underwater, go swimming with it, and or use it while showering, and the A6s can handle it all.
This also means the phone will last users for a very long time. No need to worry about replacing it in a year or so. But it’s not just the phone itself; the battery lasts quite long too, making it perfect for those who often forget to charge their phones.

OPPO says the A6s 5G offers a 60 month fluency protection, and considering the abuse this phone endured during our time with it, there’s no doubt it will last.
A long-lasting battery

It’s not just the phone itself that’s very capable. The battery of the OPPO A6s is also strong and long-lasting. It packs a 7000mAh battery, which is larger than most of the other smartphones in the same segment.

Not surprisingly, it also lasts a relatively long time based on our experience. In one instance, I even forgot to charge the phone, leaving it with only 20 percent charge in the afternoon. Without turning on battery saver mode, I still had around 19 percent the following day.
The battery benchmark proved us right too. Using our standard video loop test, the OPPO A6s was able to score 20 hours and 36 minutes of battery life. Given the results, we were never worried about running out of battery when we’re out and about with the OPPO A6s.

When it’s time to recharge, thankfully, users don’t have to wait long. The A6s features 80W SuperVOOC fast charging. Again, these speeds are usually reserved for higher-end smartphones. According to OPPO it can charge the phone from 1 to 54% in just 30 minutes.

But it’s not just the charging speeds that amazed us. Users can turn the OPPO A6s into a power bank to help their friends out since it features reverse wired charging. Considering how long the battery lasts on this phone, why not help your buddies who are using phones with faster draining batteries?
AI Smart cameras

Then there’s cameras of the OPPO A6s 5G. It only features a 50MP main shooter paired with a 2MP auxiliary lens and a 16MP camera at the front. It might feel lacking to some, but these are rather smart cameras helped with AI.

The result? The OPPO A6s cameras are capable of capturing nice sharp images. Whether you’re shooting in the day, at night or taking selfies with a friend, the OPPO A6s will have you covered in capturing memories.

Users who want to take advantage of the IP68 and IP69 rating can even use Underwater Mode to take photos or video. There are also various AI features available in the Photo gallery app, to edit the images to their liking. There’s AI Perfect Shot, AI Recompose, and AI Eraser 2.0; just pick which one your photo needs best.
Cool and capable chipset

Under the metal, the OPPO A6s packs a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset. Our unit came with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If users find the storage lacking, there is a microSD slot that can expand storage even further.
Given the budget-friendly price point, we can’t expect to find the most powerful chipset on the market. But there’s no need to worry since the Dimensity 6300 chip is more than adequate for day-to-day use with the OPPO A6s.

We can quickly switch apps and get back to where we left off. There’s no lag either when leaving multiple apps running in the background. However, given the limited RAM of our unit, it’s best to close the applications that aren’t being used for a smoother performance.
In terms of gaming, we have to set our expectations. It can run lighter titles like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty: Mobile without any problems, even with the settings on high. There’s no lag or framerate drops either, giving users a smooth experience when gaming.

As for more graphics-intensive titles like Genshin Impact, again, we have to set our expectations. The game ran smoothly on low settings at 60FPS on the OPPO A6s. While it could run Genshin with some of the graphic settings set to medium, it’s not the smoothest experience. Nonetheless, it’s a decent feat considering the price tag of this phone.
Whether we’re playing Genshin or Mobile Legends, one thing we enjoyed with the A6s is that the phone didn’t have any heating issues. Even after long gaming sessions, the phone never heated up. The OPPO A6s features a SuperCool VC System, and from what we can tell, it works really well.

With a starting price of PHP 22,999 for the 6+128GB variant and PHP 25,999 for the 8+256GB variant, some might find the price a bit high considering the package. But if the A6s 5G will last users at least 5 years, then no need to upgrade or change phones for a long time. Now that’s what I’d call a good investment.

Not to mention, users can take advantage of the numerous promos and discounts OPPO is offering for the A6 and A6s 5G. Users who buy from the OPPO online store from May 1 to 21 will get free OPPO Enco Buds3, a 1-year standard warranty, and a 1-year extended warranty. Meanwhile, for in-store purchases from May 1 to 14, buyers can get up to a PHP 2,000 discount plus a free Tango Jet Fan depending on the OPPO A6 and A6s variant they purchase.
