You probably got a new smartphone recently, and just like everybody else, you’re excited to unbox it and explores its features right away. Before you do that though, we have some recommendations that might help you get the most out of your new device.
Keep the receipt and box
It’s easy to get lost in the beauty and features of a new device that we often forget to pay attention to the packaging it came in. It is highly recommended that you properly store or take a photo of the receipt and other documentation of your purchase as you will need them for warranty purposes. As for the box, you’ll need it in case you want to sell it in the future; that way it’s presentable and more likely to be sold.
Protect it
One of the worst things to happen to a newly purchased device is physical damage. I’m talking about bumps, scratches, or cracks. It’s good to have your device protected from those by purchasing accessories. The good news is, most phones out there come with cases in the package and pre-installed with a screen protector, so you’re good for now. Although, if you want better protection, consider buying a quality tempered glass and case. It’s worth it and it will also help keep your device in pristine condition which will benefit you when you sell your device in the future.
Update the software
If the device is on the market for a while, there’s a chance that the manufacturer has already released software updates for it. Make sure to download and install it right away as they mostly include improvements, security patches, and bug fixes that can improve the user’s experience.
Remove unnecessary apps
One of the first things you’ll probably want to do is install your apps. Before doing so, consider removing the pre-installed ones that you don’t need, especially if you’re on Android, so you don’t have unnecessary apps consuming your smartphone’s resources like battery and storage. Once those apps are removed, you can now start updating the remaining apps.
Setup your cloud storage
This is important if you purchased a device with limited storage. There are plenty of cloud storage services online but the one I highly recommend is Google Photos as there is unlimited photo and video storage option. As most of you know, photos and videos take the most out of your usable storage space.
Read up!
I’m pretty sure that you have already explored some of the features of your new smartphone, but it’s also good to read about it so you can get to know more about it. Visit the smartphone’s webpage to check out its main features. Visit forums like Reddit or XDA-Developers to learn from the experiences of other owners and find out what else your device is capable of.
Purchase other accessories
Sometimes you won’t need to purchase additional accessories for your smartphone as those that come with the box are already enough. But sometimes those accessories are limited or of mediocre quality. If you’ve read enough about your device’s capabilities as mentioned above, then you’ll know what accessories to purchase that will bring out the best from your new smartphone.
And that sums it up. How about you, what tips can you share with other readers with new devices? Let us know in the comments below.
