Google’s Play Store will feature new Data Safety Section

Google’s Play Store new Data safety section will allow users to see what data Android Apps will collect.

Google has just announced a new safety section in the Play Store in the hopes to keep Google Play a safe, trusted space for people to enjoy Android apps. The Data safety section will allow users to see how each app collects, shares, and secures user data. Developers are also required to complete this section and add their information for their respective apps by July 20.

Some information to be found in this new section will include if the developer is collecting data and for what purpose, whether or not the developer is sharing data with third parties, and even the app’s security practices. There will also be information about whether or not developers have committed to Google Play’s Families Policy and validated their security practices against a global security standard.

The new section would help Google take strides into improving its security practices and respecting user privacy by helping users stay informed and understand the purpose of their data and how it’s secured.  The Play Store’s new Data safety section would also be fairly similar to Apple’s own “Privacy Nutrition Labels” which was introduced back in 2020.
