Canon EOS 60D unveiled

Listen to article

Canon has officially unveiled the new EOS 60D that’s capable of recording Full HD 1080p video (following the feats of the 550D and the 7D).

The Canon EOS 60D is the successor to the Canon 50D (announced in August 2008, which is exactly two years ago).

Canon EOS 60D specs:
18MP CMOS sensor
Full HD 1080p video
9 AF points
ISO 100 – 6400 (12800 via Custom Function)
1/8000 to 30 sec shutter speed
5.3fps shooting speed
SD/SDHC/SDXC card
Canon EF lenses (including EF-S lenses)

The 3-inch LCD display can swivel horizontally and vertically to give better usability/perspective when shooting, especially in video mode.

Estimated retail price of the Canon 60D is $1,099 when it comes out this September.

Does the swivel screen(flex cable issue) justify the extra premium? the 550d which is almost the same camera, ok a bit slower fps and smaller.. but is that all worth 20 grand? For my needs I think 550d is still the sweet spot. Still holding out though.. You’ll never know what’ll cannon come up with next.

It would be nice to have “from the above shot” capabilities like jdGONEMAD mentioned. Kidding.

Andre, the 60D is of a different class so it will always be better than the 550D class. ;-)

Canon’s decision to make this body plastic really hurt it’s desirability.
