Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray in the flesh!

At the PLDT-Smart Jump Center this morning, we saw a couple of upcoming smartphones on display; among them is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray.

This phone might look small with its 3.3-inch display but it’s slim and sexy at 9.4mm on the side. It has the same resolution as the Xperia Arc but since it has small display, you get better pixel density.

What I really liked about this phone is the HD camera — the 8MP rear camera is really good and captures 720p HD videos.

The specs are pretty decent too and is positioned as a mid-range Android handset.

Sony-Ericsson Xperia Ray
3.3″ LED display @ 480×854 pixels
1GHz Scorpion processor
Adreno 205 GPU, MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset
Bravia Mobile engine
1GB ROM (300MB user available)
512MB RAM
up to 32GB via microSD (4GB included)
HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.8 Mbps
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot
8MP autofocus camera w/ LED flash
GPS w/ aGPS support
FM radio tuner
1500mAh Li-Ion battery

Smart says this unit will soon be available and bundled with a plan (ahead of any announcement from Sony Ericsson Philippines).

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray was announced back in June 2011 so we’re hoping to see it sometime September.

  1. performance-wise, it’s like the bigger brother Xperia ARC

specs-wise, the only difference is the screen size

i hope RAY does well against the competition in the mid-range

  2. This and the Xperia Mini Pro are SE’s lineup for this year’s Xperia phones. By any chances Sir, do they have the Mini Pro?

  3. design of the phone looks good. How much do you think will this cost? Hope they can price it competitively

  4. @arrthurk, yeah i saw the mini pro. pero luma na yun ah. i think what you’re referring to is the xperia pro.

    • xperia x10 mini pro yung luma.
xperia mini pro yung post ni arrthurj :)

  5. this is one the best mid range smartphone. Sony Ericsson release this phone ASAP.

ill get this one instead of any dual core’s in the market.

  6. Hoping for a lower price. I also want this but the new xperia mini pro is a good alternative though it’s quite small.

  7. Finally, one for the ladies! Pretty hard to jump into the whole Android foray when most devices are too large to be held by women. Props to SE!

  8. Nararamdaman ko na ang Mataas na price tag nito

  9. Another well-designed phone from Sony Ericsson! Sana ito na rin yung design ng Arc.

I think I’m not going back to a small display after experiencing how better the keyboard, net, and games are on a larger 4.0″ display.

But pricing this product competitively would really make sense. I think it would be around 20-21K.

  10. I like the name before, but it looks i need to turn back for this one.

  11. hindi ba parang masyadong maliit ito? ung iPhone 3.5inch medyo sakto lng… pero ito 3.3? baka pag nag-angry birds ako matakpan na ng daliri ung screen.. hindi kaya?

  12. Sony Ericsson owns the throne when it comes to phone designs. And lately they’re doing great by using the latest android and providing better and faster updates.

My only wish is that they can position their pricing competitively. Like if they say midrange, make the price midrange. It got me thinking if most people are just paying for the premium designs.

Anyway, not a lost since SE products are always a good investment. They don’t depreciate that fast, say next to Apple’s.

  13. Is this phone available in the Philippines already? How much is its price and where can i buy it? Anybody? TIA!

  14. i just want to ask how much is the sony erickson xperia ray here in the philippines. Thank you
