Several readers sent in reports that Sun Cellular is allegedly capping their 2Mbps unlimited 3G internet (Sun Wireless Broadband) to just 640Kbps.
This was first explained to me by a friend who got a new Sun Cellular SIM. Then, last week I got to talk to a marketing manager from Sun who lent me a phone with their new Sun Cellular International SIM in it and adds that their international SMS is only Php1.
Here’s some good news for people looking into budget 3G internet. Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband has upgraded its network to 3.5G (HSDPA) and dropped its unlimited monthly subscription fees to Sun subscribers.
The tip we got earlier this month about Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband was spot on. New mobile 3G packages are now available at the Sun Cellular website announcing attractive rates.

Got a tip that the recently announced Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband service will be priced at Php999 per month with unlimited usage. Sun Cellular’s 3G will use a similar USB dongle. This is so far the cheapest and only unlimited 3G provider in the Philippines. However, since Sun Cellular has just started rolling out their HSDPA network, 3G coverage will be limited to several areas in Metro Manila.
We’ve got over a hundred submissions from our recent poll on mobile 3G services. The results are not that surprising but the breakdown of services is a bit interesting though. See figures and graphs after the jump.
With so many plans and options to get mobile 3G, I wonder which one tops the list for most internet users. I’ve counted over half a dozen ways to hook up on mobile 3G — our next poll asks which one do you often use?
Anybody else on umobile having connection problems with Globe? Got my umobile SIM a couple days ago but never bothered using it until last night after finding out the’ve got some nice numbers — mine’s 0999-3000-xyy.
The recent April 2008 traffic report from mobile advertising company AdMob reveals that the Philippines is ranked among the top 10 countries with highest traffic for the mobile web.

Just read in the newspaper (Philippine Star) about this Sun Cellular promo Text 2Bid. I thought they were launching a BidShot competitor of some sorts but this one looks like a regular promo.
Here are the mechanics:
Cool new gadgets will be given away in an auction — iPods, Nokia cellphones, digital cameras and Sony PSP — however, this auction will award the person who makes the lowest unique bid for that item.
An Apple iPod 60GB has a starting bid of Php250 only. If there are at least two people bidding the same amount for the gadget, they’re disqualified. The winner must have sent a unique bid amount with the lowest value.

Number of Bids : 3 (not unique)

To Whom It May Concern:
Last 18MAR06 I applied for a new Sun Cellular account. I have passed
the necessary requirements as stated in your website.1. Completely filled-up application form.
2. Valid ID – SSS ID.
3. A. Proof of Billing
– Electricity Bill
– Water BillI live in a condominium where the electric and water bills do not bear
the names Meralco or MWSS.B. Proof of Income – Form 2316 and last 2 payslips.
I vividly remember the lady attending my application informing me to expect 2-3 days processing time. Great!
After 1 week I receive a call requesting for additional statements. Recalling that the statements I provided (water and electricity bills) might not be acceptable, I decided to forward my last 2 credit card statements. I intentionally crossed out my credit card numbers.
Today (28 of March ‘06) I receive a call informing me to submit another creditcard statement with my credit card numbers revealed. I will do no such thing and I demand a valid explanation. Anybody in their right mind will not disclose their credit card information to anyone who already has one’s personal information.
I believe I have submitted the necessary requirements. Either you approve my application or not, I don’t really care anymore. I’m no longer excited.
This will definitely fall on deaf ears. Prove me wrong by giving me a response. You know how to reach me.

The last line reads “9 years Globe subscriber”. If you can’t accomodate this switcher, I don’t think you deserve to have loyal subscribers.
