Globe Broadband Tattoo at 2Mbps

Okay, I think I spoke too soon. Just got this press release from Globe that they renamed their 3G internet service to Globe Broadband Tattoo.

Globe Broadband Tattoo, formerly known as Globe Visibility, uses a USB stick that works as a modem (more like a re-brand of Globe Visibility). Globe has also upgraded their network so users can get speeds of up to 2 Mbps.

globe broadband tattoo

Globe redesigned Globe Broadband Tattoo with some funky designs featuring artworks in black, orange, or blue.

The Globe Broadband Tattoo Prepaid Kit comes with a free Php100 load that is equivalent to five hours of free internet usage. Users still pay only Php5 per fifteen minutes with multiple connections.

Once users have consumed their free load, reloading the Globe Broadband Tattoo Prepaid SIM can be loaded like a regular prepaid SIM, whether through Share-A-Load, Globe Load or prepaid call cards.

Users may also opt for a postpaid plan for Globe Broadband Tattoo; there is a range of plans for as low as Php799/month with 60 free mobile internet hours.

Aside from using Globe Broadband Tattoo as a mobile Internet modem, the SIM card inside the USB can also be used for calls and sending text messages at regular cellphone rates. The USB also comes with a built-in expansion slot where users can insert their own microSD card for additional file storage.

The new Globe Broadband Tattoo Prepaid Kit is sold for only Php1,895.

Who is the manufacturer of their new data card? I hope it is still Huawei. I do not like the ZTE brand. Huawei rules!

Is it really improved or they just re-branded the product?

Yay!!! I hope this would work here in my area! By the way, Abe, I am getting a Globe Broadband soon… :) Tried Smart twice here but they said my area is DEAD! No signal at all. :( Wish me luck!

i just bought the other kit a week ago… wait a minute CALLS o.O on the modem?

Are their firmware upgrades for this modem: http://www.yugatech.com/blog/telecoms/globe-visibility-prepaid-now-at-php1895/ to allow calls?

I know we can simply switch the sim to a phone and instant calls, but my point is to make calls using the modem on your laptop.

I heard from a friend working in Globe’s mktg dept that this is just pure rebrand, since they’re desperately trying to get subscribers despite their weak network.

SMART has better network coverage, IMHO. PLDT is even investing in it even more this year.. You know now which side to stay on.

  6. Gravatar Icon yuga replied on Feb 26th, 2009 at 3:05 pm (6)

Yup, looks like a re-brand although the 2Mbps is a mcuh welcome upgrade.

  7. Gravatar Icon Kiks replied on Feb 26th, 2009 at 3:13 pm (7)

I’m not sure if the designs are cool, but they’re definitely a fresh look in the market.

I don’t believe in the network upgrade though.

Poster above is ryt… If they’re upgrading, SMART is upgrading even more…

I like its new price. I got Globe 3G connection in my area, I like SmartBro but the connection in our area is still GPRS. Im really looking forward for this move from Globe. Case Closed! :D

abe, is there an unlimited plan that they’re offering? id like to try globe’s “tattoo” instead of sun cellular’s broadband.

Nope, they’ve discontinued their unlimited plans. No idea when and if they will bring it back though I’m always egging them to.

It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing! Globe is only good for their mobile phone services -__-; (and only because they were first).. They just want your money for this one, expect a lot of trouble calls once you start using this..

    Kill their broadband please// it’s cr*p. Agree?

  15. Gravatar Icon neis replied on Feb 26th, 2009 at 8:34 pm (15)

    @yuga,

they still have their unlimited plans, though you need to apply it as corporate account… *coughs*

  16. Gravatar Icon jarod_0122 replied on Feb 26th, 2009 at 8:40 pm (16)

I don’t know why Globe is lagging behind Sun. Di ba dapat ang order ay Smart, Globe at kulelat ang Sun?
They may think that people are d*mb enough to see the signs. One prominent symptoms of system downgrade is their inability to offer unlimited access.

  17. Gravatar Icon yuga replied on Feb 26th, 2009 at 8:53 pm (17)

Ahh yes, it’s their consumer grade unlimited plan that was discontinued — it’s because users are abusing the service, they say.

should’ve included a 2GB or 4GB microSD card in it.

abe could you show us a tutorial on how to share internet connection on this device on two to three PC’s or devices

    ie..
Globe Tatoo with multiple inet connections to:
    -Laptop 1,
    -N82
    -Desktop 1
    -PSP

    is that possible?..

  22. Gravatar Icon Unleashed replied on Feb 27th, 2009 at 4:30 pm (22)

Is it practical to get one of these? I had a Globe Wireless Broadband at home, and the connection is very unstable. Its includes a wireless router but I am instructed not to move it or else my signal will be lost.

  23. Gravatar Icon david replied on Feb 27th, 2009 at 6:55 pm (23)

I’ve got the original Globe Visibility unlimited, and it’s been inconsistent. There was a time I could get 1.3 mbps, but that time is gone. I get less than half that lately, and it’s just not reliable. 2 mbps upgrade? I don’t see it.

Compared to Smart prepaid, Smart is also not great, but it’s been more reliable than Globe when I’ve tested it. A lot could depend on your location, though, so if you have the ability to test both, that’s probably best to check for yourself.

For everybody’s information. The speed depends on your location. You can say that smart bro will work better in your place but in the other place globe tattoo works better. 3G Network is a breathing network. So meaning to say the signal is moving and the speeds also depending on how many users in the area. Final words to say… Globe Tattoo is better tahn smartbro because GLobe had more cell sites than Smart.

Huawei is still the manufacturer of Globe Tattoo as well as the Sun Broadband.

I just bought Globe Tattoo. The brand is just the sticker. Anyway I have a separate DSL in my house. I figure those who are complaining are the ones who depend on Visibility as their only source of home internet. But if you have this as a secondary connection, I think it works very well.

I’ve tried both globe visibility and smart bro prepaid. Globe runs pretty well during the wee hours starting 1AM-6AM. But during the day, minsan mabilis, but mostly its crawling at a snail’s pace. Dial-up connection is even faster than globe.

With smartbro, depends on your location nga. But my main complain with it is that mahilig sa drop lines or disconnection. I’ll be surfing for about a minute then suddenly i’ll get disconnected, then I log back again, surf for about a minute or two, then ma disconnect again. So in that 3 mins, they’ve already charged me an hour’s worth of surfing. Mabilis maubos ang prepaid load ko dito.

For me mas maganda ang GLOBE, kasi kahit sa signal mas malakas…Pero totoo yung sinasabi nila na depende ang sa location, but for me Globe is faster than SMARTBRO…

Sample ng mga location na naitatry ko ang signal at pag gamit ko ng mobile internet.

    1. Alabang Area Globe – 390kbps to 890kbps, Smartbro – 189kbps to 400kbps
    2. Sta. Rosa & Calamba Laguna – Globe – 300kbps to 700kbps, Smart a- 210kbps to 410zkbps
    3. Taytay & Antipolo Rizal Area Globe – 170Kbps to 380Kbps, Smart 90Kbps to 200Kbps
    4. Tanauan Batangas area Globe 320kbps to 560kbps, Smart – 190kbps to 300kbps
    5. Manila area Globe – 500kbps to 900kbps, Smart 400 to 700kbps
    6. makati Area Globe 600Kbps to 1.1Mbps, Smart 400kbps to 800kbps
    7.Cavite area(Home) Globe 300kbps to 600kbps, Smart 180kbps to 300kbps.

Tapos lagi pa nadidisconnect ang smartbro kaya syang ang load.

1 time naitry ko din ang SUN sa Manila area wow ang bilis nya halos pantay sila ng Globe(malamang dahil konti pa lang ang gumagamit)

    Rank of the Mobile internet

    1. Globe Visi

  39. Gravatar Icon misterveggy replied on Mar 6th, 2009 at 8:48 am (39)

Regardless if it’s Smart or Globe, if you’re used to fast connections, prepare to be disappointed. Both providers’ services are still in the early stages of technological savyness. You will have inconsistent connections and when you do have connection it is snail pace. Worst the upload part of the connection is comparable to dial speeds if not non existent.

Bottom line is if you can handle frustration pretty well, then get either of the “wireless” services. If not, then stick to the traditional services or just hang out at real wireless hot spots.

  40. Gravatar Icon Leo replied on Mar 7th, 2009 at 12:02 pm (40)

    Hi RiaLyz!

Mag Globe ka na lng kasi… Sa Paranaque they have a cell site of globe at malapit ka sa Pasay Las Pinas Makati na may kanikaniyang cellsite.. so meaning mas ok yung speed ng Globe… Kasi nga sa smartbro lagi ka madidisconnect!… Try mo din ang SUN ang bilis nya.. kasi may cellsite din dyan ang SUN sa Paranaque kasi konti p lng naman gumagamit ng SUN Mobile iNTERNET….

  41. Gravatar Icon mAu replied on Mar 7th, 2009 at 2:11 pm (41)

im using smartbro plan 999..mabilis din naman eh lalo na pag safari browser ang gamitin mo..and its depend on the capabilities of your computer alone…kung mahilig ka sa download lalo na sa mga 700mb pataaz i would suggest pplan 999 its unlimited…kung nakalaptop ka naman u can use globe tatto kz nababagay lang ung laptop pag ginamit ng matagal umiinit yan..same with the globe tatto pag ginamit ng matagal the more load u can consumed..pag desktop ka?/mag unlimited internet ka na lang…but its ur decision guys…gudlak

Bought the prepaid kit last night at Trinoma. Tried using it last night.
    Speed: 3.6mbps!!!
Signal strength: 3 to 5 bars!
But no! download and upload speeds range from zero to 10kbps! kamusta naman! Location is Marikina. We are very near its cellsite.
Early this morning, I called their customer care hotline twice via landline and twice thru my cellphone but all those were disconnected! Do agents do that deliberately?

Buti na lang prepaid ang binili ko, kung postpaid. patay na!

  45. Gravatar Icon Jamez replied on Mar 10th, 2009 at 3:26 am (45)

Sometimes there are misconceptions sa speed na sinasabi ng Globe sa totoong speed na naeexperience.

Yung up to 2mbps is yung speed ng connection ng usbmodem-to-laptop/pc.

if you would connect it sa usb port makikita mo “connected” then if you’d check it out nakalagay “Speed – 2mbps” pero that just means na ung palitan ng Data Packet from USB to PC/Laptop is 2mbps.

But if you would try using online internet speed checkers like speedtest.net for example, it would give you a ROUGH ESTIMATE of your INTERNET SPEED.

Quick Analogy would be a CANAL and Water Flow.

You may have had a Big and Wide Canal (modem connection) with the size of 2mbps, but the water flowing in it (internet connection) might just be as little as 56kbps.

So kahit naka display pa sa desktop mo na ang speed mo is 2mbps, kung ang sinasabi ng internet speed checker is 56kbps lang, then that just means na 56kbps lang ang internet connection mo na dumadaloy sa 2mbps Canal ng usb modem na gamit mo.

Yan madalas ang parang pang Deceive ng mga marketers ng products like these para masabi lang na mabilis ang internet, but sa totoo connection lang un ng usb-to-laptop/pc but not the connection from internet-to-usb

Although I’m connected to SmartBro right now, I feel like getting a Globe Tattoo for myself…because I can’t use a Smart SIM at home because it’s practically a SMART dead spot. I need to go near the windows literally to get just one bar.

@Don’t Be Fooled: I dunno, but Globe is more reliable in our place. Like some guys here say, performance depends on location, because these plug-in modems work like mobile phones: it doesn’t work well if it has no signal, and won’t work if there’s no signal! Dito kasi sa amin, mahirap ang SMART signal.

I really don’t understand why neither Globe nor Smart want to help me in connecting their devices on linux.

They simply say that in theory it works but they don’t know how and I have to hire my own developer.

The problem on the eee pc is that it automatically recognises the device as a mass storage. NOt as a modem.

Does any one know how or where I can get the right verion of the software to make the tatoo run on the Asus please?

    Thank you.

I’ve tried Smartbro prepaid kit… and very disappointed… i’ve used it in Makati and Antipolo.. crappy talaga.. and to make it worse is its customer service.. filed 2 complains already but still no resolution…

Now i’m reading this Globe Tattoo… more people say its crap… but i guess i have to try it.. ill buy it tonight, hope it doesnt crap out as they said.. i hope my area (makati or antipolo) gets better signal (high upload and dowload rate)… and i hope its always HSDPA…

will post again for the result…

ayos nman yung signal..d2 sa taguig..
yung sinasabi nila na after ng 1 month, bumabagal daw..

    simple lang yun..
magbayad ka ng bill mo ontime..=)

    i love my Globe tattoo..
    swerte2x lang talaga…
kasi naman di naman lahat ng oras merong net connection..

swerte lang kaya ako kasi pag nag online ako ang lakas ng signal…

isa pa… dito sa davao, they sell their kit without restrictions.. mapa desktop or laptop.. di mo na kelangan pa magdala ng laptop sa center.. they just sell it to you…

though nung bumili ako ng tattoo, naubusan ung center, kaya they refer me to a mobile shop that sells original sony ericsson phones and sort of other original branded phones galore chuva, kaya yun, i got a black tattoo… geez.. i would prefer blue, kaso walang available..

I just bought a prepaid usb kit of GLOBE TATTOO (Black Color).. Cool Looking and Cool Name.. Web Browsing is normal when viewing web txt and pictures.. I experienced little hassle.. Download speeds vary from time to time.. Early Morning its blazing fast (realtime video streaming) but when noons comes slows dramatically.. At night speeds seems normal.. sometimes fast.. sometimes slow.. I just called customer service if a had some problems connecting or if its unstable.. GLOBe’s enhancing and upgrading its internet services so its normal to experiences some flaws and conflicts.. OVERALL i think GLOBEs TATTOO is cool and quite reliable when you’re on the go or just need to surf the net somewhere out there.. again depending on your location and double check if your usb is 2.0 LOL.. sya nga pala 5 pesos per 15 minutes lang ika nga ni Tonskie.. mas maliit ang kaltas kaysa smart.. cute di ba mga pareng kosa.. ako pa ang mali??

Globe broadband tattoo is a marketing DECEPTION! 2 megabits per second is a figment of their imagination! You can’t finish a decent episode of NCIS! I have just wasted P 1,895 plus P 500 load on this REPACKAGED visibility. I got full bars on HSDPA signal with an actual download speed of only ZERO to 100 kbps! Same speed as MIRC in the late 90’s! I have tested this at various times of the day! location: mandaue city, cebu.
Buying a globe tattoo is like buying a brick and whacking your head with it! But the brick has much better uses. Thank you!

broadband tattoo is great in my area in bicol province, legazpi city, in front our house is a cellcite, the only problem is that is watching megavideo very low buffering, downloading from rapidshare share is to wait to download when u are free user and the download speed 10kbps – 18kbps when using orbit even though the speed of my broadband range 500k – 1.2mbps. but updating windows update, anti virus is superb fast and browsing the net. great!

  122. Gravatar Icon Volfield replied on Apr 25th, 2009 at 12:27 pm (122)

    Hello hello people!

Well what can I say sa Globe tattoo? Nothing yet…

I’ve tried the new Smartbro prepaid and it works fine in my area in Mamatid, Cabuyao, Laguna. Almost tolerable 1.2 Mbps(using the ever reliable speakeasy speedtest website)… and the download is ascending from 3 KBps to almost 80 KBps.And yes, rumors that the probability it may disconnect while surfing is true. But still the previous prepaid balance was not forfeited and reusable.

Last month I’d tried the first bloated modems of Smartbro and Globe. They are really slow(even HSDPA mode), but Globe visibility if the slowest of them all(although rumors saids it has a cell tower near in our area).

Well before I buy the new Smartbro prepaid, I think I have to try the Globe Tattoo modem. How I wish someone would lend a tatoo modem to me, so I can finally decide which prepaid modem to choose.

By the way, when measuring the speed of your bandwith, DO NOT ASSUME 300kbps is the actual bandwith speed of the file you are downloading. kbps(kilobits per second) is different from KBps(kilobytes per second). So as to say, 300kbps speed is 37 KBps download speed, and hey it varies depending in your PC/laptop.
There are important aspect to consider also such as the:

    1. Remaining free RAM of the computer.
    2. Malware infection(Yeah some malware, either virus, spyware, prevents the browser from accessing some websites, e.g. Friendster).
    4. The strictness of installed antivirus software.(Tsk, there are some antivirus that are really good in catching viruses, in exchange, strict in scanning incoming/outgoing packets, and so delaying some seconds in webpage browsing. Search for yourself on what antivirus it is, hehehe)
    5. Hard disk drive clutter condition(cluttered hard disk drive, slower access to files).
    6. The thickness of the wall and roof of your house(hehehe, ofcourse, this reduces the wireless signal).
    7. How your house is near to the cell tower(oh just look in wikimapia.org or google earth if your house is near in a cell tower).
    8. Lastly, if that cell tower is emitting a 3G/HSDPA signal.(oh ask personally the customer care for this, anyway calling them in *888 or 211 is free)

I hope I enlighthened some of you.

For the telecom companies. May I suggest that you include at leat a 3 meter USB extension in your prepaid package? This for the subscribers with desktop PC’s to extend the modem, at least outside the window in order to receive a fresh broadband signal w/o further hindrances such as wall/roof.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Globe broadband is OK for me when it comes to performance, especially during off-peak hours (nighttime).

Cons: you cannot broadcast your webcam in IM (e.g. yahoo messenger), but you can view the webcam of others.

Note: it’s advisable that you use this device during daytime.

  127. Gravatar Icon kam replied on May 7th, 2009 at 3:45 pm (127)

Based on my experience, it’s Ok to use Globe tattoo during daytime. I’ve experienced slowing down of internet speed during nighttime, maybe because the network is congested due to many users. So, i suggest, the best time you use this device is during daytime, specifically 1AM to 6AM. ;)

Also, another bad thing in globe tatoo is that you cannot broadcast your webcam with IM client, but you can view the webcam of others. I remember when i bought this device in MOA branch of Globe, they told me about this and i said “tlga? bkit wla naman sa advertisement?”..

But then when you inquire about globe tattoo in their business centers, the first thing they would ask you is if you have your laptop with you. Globe people dont know what are they selling.. They have that ad on their website that globe tattoo can be use both on desktop and laptop. But then when you inquire about globe tattoo in their business centers, the first thing they would ask you is if you have your laptop with you. Such a nincompoop, they didnt know what are they posting on their website, they are unsure of their product and they dont even trust if their product will work on a desktop.

For me Globe Tattoo works fine to others globe tattoo has a worst service. But it ends up to your location.

From my home at El Pueblo, Kingspoint Sudb. Bagbag Novaliches signal is always HSDPA. But using it in Muñoz area it always fall on GPRS only and connection is really slow……

SmartBro (prepaid)on the other hand is really slow at El Pueblo, Kingspoint Subd. Bagbag Novaliches. But haven’t tested this yet in Muñoz area.

I’ll try SUN Broadband next to check and finalize which I will subscribe on….. Because I’m using SUN on my mobile and its always on full signal at home.

Hello, Lyong_Min. I also live in El Pueblo Novaliches area. Have you tried the Sun broadband kit yet? I am planning on getting Globe Tattoo but if Sun is just as good then maybe I’ll get that instead

  140. Gravatar Icon Lyong_Min replied on May 21st, 2009 at 3:34 pm (140)

RkD, Ok naman Globe Tatto since Globe cell site is located on top of Phase 1 of El Pueblo.

Tested Globe Tattoo it work just fine download rate up to 430 kBps max between 9:00pm and 12:00mn.

But SUN wireless braodband is much better I can get as much as 2.1mbps between 9:00pm and 12:00mn. I already got a SUN broadband prepaid. And I’m not disappointed with it.

Currently waiting for SUN Cellular to release o PROMO of 3 in 1 bundle SUN CELL + SUN TEL + SUN WIRELESS BROADBAND. kapag nagkaroon na sila mag-switch ko na sa post paid yung broadband. kasi naka bundle yung SUN CELL and SUN TEL ko hehehe….

WISHING SUN will come up with this package sure uupgrade ko plan ko…..

Just an advice for those who want to avail of wireless broadband, test them all sa mga area na madalas kayo pumunta o tumambay.

Test GLOBE, SMART, SUN. After doing your test, decide on what TELCO you will choose may it be SMART, GLOBE or SUN since their service are wireless I’m sure their service will vary depending on the area of coverage and where you will test them.

    you know what.

i already switched to a residential dsl connection. and it’s stable than any other wireless signal. i understand your concerns about maximum use of the internet without the hassles of disconnections and other f*cked up things, as well as the economic aspect. kasi when you say prepaid, you eventually think na makakatipid kayo. for some of us, we even think na a residential DSL is faster pero mahal. let’s take into consideration the time you spend when you go online. for example, using your tattoo and like you load up 20 pesos an hour to just roam the cyberworld doing whatever, and then you add another 20 pesos kasi nga bitin, kasi super bagal or you need to download something not naman big as in big, just quite big, so it’s 40 pesos na… samantala, with DSL data only, of 995 with a speed of UP TO 1 mbps, online ka whenever you want it, sa 995 fixed amount ng bill mo every month, i-divide mo ito into 31 days, which is one month exact, what do you get? a rounded figure of 33 pesos a day. now going back to globe tattoo… you spent 40 pesos a day just to go online… 40 pesos is just 2 freaking hours. which 33 pesos is 24 hours, provided na hindi ka nga natutulog. so think about it. 33 pesos a day divide it by 24 hours, how much per hour do you pay with Globe’s DSL? almost 2 pesos an hour. yun yun eh.

I just hope my review enlightened people on switching from wireless to wired connection… provided na di sila maxadong active with their social life…

  143. Gravatar Icon Tonskie replied on May 24th, 2009 at 9:36 am (143)

    Hello people!

Is it really true na hindi pwede ang globe tattoo sa desktop? Magdodorm na kasi ako sa june & wala pa akong laptop kaya for the mean time desktop muna dadalhin ko. I need the internet for my research& to stay connected with my family. I will be staying in Dasmariñas, Cavite near the DLS-UMC. I used to live around the area too & have used the internet using my GLOBE PHONE 3G service yata and so far it was a pleasant experience. Right now I’m just thinking twice about buying globe tattoo bec I heard from my cousin that the connection is really slow.

I’ve had a bad experience with globe wireless center kasi, pag customer service okay sila pero pag wireless center para bang ayaw ka nilang i-accomodate. Isa pa Smart Bro is partners with PLDT kaya sure na okay ang kanilang connection.

technology priorities kasi ang dahilan kaya minsan bagsak ang services ng ibang product ng mga telecoms carrier, wala sila long term plan for thier subcribers, tulad ngayon may technology that evolves with fiber optics, then ang company magswitch ng priority, so they invest more doon sa kikita sila at bago, tapos yung broadband services and DSL, bagsak na. so dont expect for services to be better. sana yung mga subscribers nila tutulungan din to upgrade and avail their new services, or the customer can have discount to avail thier new products diba? ay nasa Pinas pala tayo.

    what do you think Globe.

  167. Gravatar Icon redball replied on Jun 12th, 2009 at 3:54 pm (167)

Why waster your money on buying this USB modems? If your phone is 3G and HSDPA/HSUPA capable use it at your advantage. New phones released on the market have these High speed internet capability. Maybe you all need to read your phone’s manual to use it as a modem. I’ve been using my phone for more than a year to connect to the internet wirelessly. I can’t complain even though my phone is only 3G capable so I’m planning to buy a new phone that have those High Speed protocols.

Get most out of your mobile phone than waste on buying these USB kits.

btw, since desktop CPUs are mostly placed on the corner of the room or sitting on the floor, mobile signal is weak.

tattoo is not bad afterall… but it is only for browsing not for downloading or gaming

what i mean is it is too slow to use for DL or online game….

I tried checking its bandwith on different speedtest site.. the highest result i’ve got is up to 300+kbps… but upon checking on this site i must get UP to 2mbps…

    not even close to haft….

i am a laptop user so i have tried using it on different location like quezon, ortigas and paranaque…

same result,I only get up to 300kbps…

although it is a thumbs up..because it is portable and always ready to use anywhere…

    better than dial-up! :D hehehe

hmmm. one more thing… compare using it on a DSL line.. it is somehow faster and handy specially for a laptop user… you dont have to look for a wi-fi..

i also gunno try SUN just for comparing… no hard feelings for globe fanatics.. as for having a filipino attitude i am just looking for a provider that suite my bills…

    right? :D hehehehe

    here is a tip guys!

if your planing to have an internet connection just for HOME USE only, try to apply for PLDT myDSL line like plan 888 or plan 990 specially if your location is near a PLDT central/business offices…
and upon connection assembly by a pldt technician try to bribe the them to raise ur bandwidth… already tried that because before i work as a technical support for pldt so i know PLDT’s darkside.. hehehe

and did you know that for a line connection even thou you applied for any type of plan line plan880,plan990,plan1320 or any business type of plan you are only paying for SAME KIND OF LINE!!

    believe it or not!

at USA or europe they are only paying for 2 types of line. that is residential and business.. because they have 2 different type of connection.. fiber and copper connection.. here at philippines we only have 1 type of connection.. copper type.. although we have a fiber but it is only use for CORPORATE account…

copper connection can reach up to 10mbps and those corrupt businessman they just limit ur connection to make you believe that ur only paying for that bandwidth.. MARKETING strategy… hehehehe

hope this will help you guys….

I’m a postpaid subscriber of globe tattoo 1499. The plan includes 120 hours of surfing and unlimited wifi access to any globequest wiz hotspot.

The connection is VERY UNSTABLE. I access it at the office or at my condo and I’m always only in one spot. I don’t go to other rooms, heck I don’t even shift my laptops position when I access the broadband.

Nevertheless, my download speed would go from 150kbps to 0.25kbps in a matter of minutes. Whats worse is that it stays at 0.25 kbps unless I disconnect my line and reconnect it again. Then it’ll start to download at high speeds until about 30minutes, where the download speed will go back to the glacial 0.25kbps.

All of this happens when I’m connected to HSDPA, no changing bands, it was always HSDPA.

I access my broadband in Makati and the HSDPA signal is ALWAYS full but the speeds are never consistent.

So I opted for an alternative, using the unlimited WIZ WIFI, that comes with the plan 1499. BUT GLOBE, it seems, NEVER wants to provide you the service that you paid for.

You can’t access the wifi unless you send an sms request for your WIZ username and password. The SMS costs P2.50 every request and the password that will be sent to you is only usable for 24 hours.

So if you wanted to use it everyday, you’d be charged an additional P2.50 on top of the amount you pay for your plan. That translates to an additional P75 per month!

I requested for a permanent password through their CSR but I was informed that one CANNOT get a permanent password, and that I will just have to make do with requesting for a password everyday and paying the P2.50 everyday.

I wanted to have my line cut, but they said I had to pay P10,000 because I’m still under the lock in period.

So are you thinking about subscribing to globe tattoo?

I would advice AGAINST it. Try smart brooadband instead.

I’ve said this on the globe tattoo forum. This is just to warn those who are planning to buy/use their globe tattoo:

Globe tattoo is even worse than a 56kbps modem ( even on a commercial area like Makati or Ortigas wherein conn. speed ranges from 0-12kbps ). The ave. speed I’m getting is 0-3kbps. This doesn’t allow to either sign me in to my im, or browse the web, or download files. This is very inconvenient to use. Yesterday is the worst I’ve ever used this thing, from morning to night, I get connected but can’t do anything over the internet, not even logging to im. Aside from that, the ave. times that I get disconnected due to the slow connection is 5x. I have to re-connect again. For every re-/connection, there’s a min. charge of Php5.00. Just for reconnecting, I’m loosing Php25.00. For those who plan to buy a Globe Tattoo, please think again, don’t let your money and energy be wasted, or make sure that you can get a refund if you’re not satisfied.

  176. Gravatar Icon redball replied on Jun 23rd, 2009 at 3:24 pm (176)

Why don’t you all complain at NTC or at Senate? Since Enrile is complaining about Globe, why don’t you add more fuel to the fire?

    So EVIL.

  177. Gravatar Icon Dan replied on Jun 25th, 2009 at 5:40 pm (177)

I bought one and have had nothing but problems. It did install and work out of the box, no problems. Worked for one day, reasonable speed. Day 2 DOWN from 11am to 9am the next day. Globe said the entire Butuan network was down. Next day was OK but speed was extremely variable. Today “Network down” from roughly 7am to 11am… same story.

Also if you do time browsing, which is the only affordable option, you get charge for a new 15 minute segment every-time you loose a connect, which is frequent.

I just do not think that Globe’s infrastructure is ready to support a product like this.

I subscribed to Globe for wireless broadband 3g (995/month),internet only at 512 kbps last May 10 2009, they gave me Huawei B933 modem. The first time they install it i got a 300 kbps and up speed, the transmitter is just a few meters from my house and after few weeks the speed went down remarkably so i called them up and ask them to check my connection and then “pabalibalik na lang yong technician to my house” coz i am getting only 170 kbps and most of the times is “mas mababa pa” and until now my internet speed is very poor just below 200kps not even half of what i am paying which is suppose to be 512 kbps and i am really disappointed and keep on calling them about it and ang sabi nila is they are having some nationwide maintenance on their 3G, and they don’t give me any assurance kung kelan matatapos ito which really gives me a real headache coz i am using it for my online job. I am really disappointed with GLOBE. I will never subscribe to any Globe broadband ever again.

I got my tattoo a couple days ago. Didn’t pay for it since it was free when purchasing a laptop. Basically, it’s all in the location.
Tried it at my apartment in Pasay (intersection of Buendia/Taft) and got HSPDA connection and downloading was fast too. Then tried it at my house in Silang Cavite and got GPRS at an average of 33Kbps, much slower than dial up, didn’t even wanna bother to download anything.

In my experienced, I’ve tried the PLDT999 (a residential plan which is the best connection I’ve ever had) having an average 1.5Mbps 24/7(never went below 1Mbps and sometimes went up to 3Mbps). Had to give this up when I moved to my current house in Silang Cavite. Now I’m using Smart Bro for my residential internet connection. It aint fast (compared to PLDT999) but it aint slow either.

I think the only benefit to the tattoo is it’s mobility. Ironically, most of the location the tattoo is used gets unstable or extremely slow connections.

  199. Gravatar Icon delta replied on Jul 31st, 2009 at 11:30 am (199)

On a side note, my brother once tried the tattoo on a bus from Manila to Tagaytay and he said the connection and download was pretty fast.
So for a fast connection……get on a bus or live in one, you’ll be exploring all the cell sites along the way.

I’m planning to try the unlimited plan of globe tattoo, but I’m having doubts thanks to the infamous sucky service of globe broadband. I’m usually on the go so a wired connection won’t do, I really need a plug-in internet service, unlimited one.

Unfortunately SmartBRO’s unlimited service is still unvailable, they said “maybe next month”, but those maybes lasts like a year or so.

    >>FAST SPEED IS USUALLY FROM 12mn-11am, WHERE THE FASTEST SPEED IS FROM 3am-5am;

I honestly dont know why Globe is so slow at increasing the speed, reliability, and coverage of their 3G and 3.5G services.

Lowering their Globe Tattoo USB modems is a bad marketing move in my opinion. Why on god’s good earth would any network provider be stupid enough to want more people to use their internet services when it still sucks in the first place?

Lowered USB modem costs + unreliable connection + weaker coverage = a lot of pissed-off consumers

Globe is digging its own grave.

  230. Gravatar Icon Rei replied on Oct 3rd, 2009 at 11:39 pm (230)

I’ve been reading this post and find it unfair to compare wired internet connection with USB modems.

For one thing, these USB modems where meant for mobility. I use both Smart Bro and Globe Tattoo simply because i want the option of having a back-up in case one of the service provider is weaker (or stronger) in any given area around the Philippines. I travel around the country frequently because of my work and frankly, Globe Tattoo is mediocre. Even at GPRS speed, Smart Bro is much more stable and reliable.

I think people who sing praises about Globe’s broadband services being awesome doesnt move around the country and mostly live only in Metro Manila and its surrounding provinces.

The 2mbps is a total lie and fraud. I would not recommend it. Even at 0 kbps you still get charged 20p per hour. What a ripoff. Getting charged for the slowest connection I’ve ever seen!

I am stuck with the lock in period and here is the worse part of it, the technician who came in to check my internet suggested me to migrate to their wimax to improve my internet and solve the problem, so i did,I went to their wireless center, they terminated my previous account with them and shifted to wimax but the thing is they told me that everything will be reset and i will be again locked in for one year! Now i have this strange feeling of hesitations since i read the comment of Warren on top,’cos i live just in antipolo, i am still waiting for them to install my wimax 1Mbps. Wish me luck.

I was really disappointed with the Globe Broadband i can say that WIMAX is just another type of branding, its just like a new way of improving the signal but still have the same slow internet connection, cos the problem is their DNS not their signal,if u are reading this please refer to my past comment, i said this coz they tried to install my wimax a few days ago, but oh my the browsing is as slow as a turtle it cant even open the speedtest.net site properly, though the signal is 100%. So it was really a mix emotion of disappointment and worried, coz not again, i don’t want another one year with a crappy internet connection, coz i am using this for my job. So i called them up and cancel the migration to wimax contract with them and just continue the 3g which apparently as i’ve said on my last comment is ” a pain in the ass” and “Hindi ko Maabot ang Mundo”.I feel i was scammed by some advertisement and irresponsible advertisers. I am just waiting for my contract to end and it would be a great riddance, I’m planning to try another ISP like SUN with their no lock in period plan or go back to DSL.

I tried the sun’s easy internet for 799/month and i was pretty amazed to find out that it is even faster than my smartbro prepaid and way faster than my globe 995/month postpaid, even at one bar with wcma signal!

    Hello guys!

May MicroSD slot??? Pano nga naman kung may virus ung memory card,is there any possibilities na masira ung USB Stick?? Well, siguro un ang sense ng “Warranty”…hehehe…

Also, regarding naman sa pinag-aawayan na “connection”, gaya nga ng sabi ng iba, it depends on your location. Since wireless connectivity, wag mangarap na laging okay ang connection. I live in Novaliches,Quezon City, at nakita ko sa commercial ng Globe Tattoo na one of the fastest broadband connection ang lugar namin…pero dahil sa mga comment niyo, mukhang kelangan kong bilhin ung 3, then kung anu ung mabilis, siyang gagamitin…the rest ay gift na lang sa X-mas. ^^

    Nagmamahal,
    johnx007.

  268. Gravatar Icon qwerty replied on Dec 15th, 2009 at 4:22 pm (268)

2mbps = bandwidth, that’s the highest you can go(burst speed) pero pang browsing lang to iba naman un sa download. companies limit your download to 10-15% of your bandwidth minsan 5% pa. wireless connection speeds depend on your location and the number of users that are connected in your location. Sun 2mbs wireless sa manila can download 70kbps to 100kbps pag araw, umaabot nmn ng 140-220kbps pag gabi. globe wimax and smartbro(canopy) @512kbps bandwidth max download nila is 60kbps kahit nka download accelerator k pa, minsan lumalagpas pero bumabalik dn sa 60kbps.
globe tattoo d2 sa zamboanga umaabot ng 100kbps download, smartbro usb stick nmn download is 80kbps.

Sa pagpili ng wireless Internet provider piliin un pnkamalapit ang cellsite, usually you get good results pag ganun basehan mo.

I tried using Globe Tattoo. I’m staying here at Marilao, Bulacan and we’re not that far from Metro Manila. Globe Tattoo’s speed sucks here. I wish they would improve their service especially for those living outside the Metro Manila area. I always go on out of town trips and I usually bring my laptop with me. ‘Haven’t tried Globe Tattoo in Pangasinan but I doubt it if they have a signal there.

    To Globe telecom:

Bka namn pde nio ayusin ung signal d2 sa malate area… sobrang bagal tlga.. full signal nga bagal naman.. I just hope na you do something about it rather than advertising and claiming your the fastest wireless broadband internert… dont think so.
