Samsung Galaxy Z is the budget-friendly S2

Samsung has yet another superphone up its sleeve but it’s not any better than the S2 — the Samsung Galaxy Z is supposed to be a cheaper alternative to the i9100 SII .

The Galaxy Z is basically like the SLCD equivalent of the Galaxy S2 and sporting a different chipset, the NVidia Tegra 2. At 9.5mm thin and 135g in weight, it’s not as sexy as the S2 though.

Samsung I9103 Galaxy Z specs:
4.2″ SC-LCD capacitive touchscreen @ 480 x 800 pixels
Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor
GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 chipset
1GB RAM, 2GB ROM
8GB storage
up to 32GB via microSD card
5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash
1.3MP front-facing camera
720p video recording
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP
GPS with aGPS support
FM radio
Li-Ion 1650mAh battery
Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread

The Galaxy Z was outed a little early than Samsung wanted because its telecom partner in Sweden (three) posted it on their website offering the handset for pre-order {via}.

The specs are nothing to scoff at either — it’s still powerful and basically matched the specs of the Optimus 2X in some areas.

The Galaxy S2 is still very popular so I reckon we won’t see the Galaxy Z in the Philippines anytime soon. We’re estimating a retail price of around Php27k but it should be lower than that by the time it reaches the Philippines.

  1. I thought it would be cheaper like Samsung Ace….but then again…Benchmark…DREAM on! hehehehe

    • I’m with you, all throughout the post I was thinking, oooh, so this will be the successor of the Galaxy Ace, until I see the price. =/ So I guess this should be replacing the Galaxy SL instead.

    • sa yaman ni sir yuga, tlagang budget friendly yan sa kanya hehehe… tayo need budget

  2. in other words, it’s an LG Optimus Black P970 with an additional 512RAM..

    • Not really. This is a dual core phone with Tegra 2. The black only has a single core OMAP processor and an Adeno GPU. It also has 8GB internal storage compared to the paltry 1GB on the Black.

  3. Galaxy S 2 sa dbgadgets 27k+ lang with service warranty, nakita ko kanina

  4. I wish mas mura nga sya… mas mura pa sana sa LG Optimus Black .. :p yun kase ang tinatarget ko now…

  5. With the specs shown and the suggested price, it’s appropriate.

  6. @Sir Yuga,

Sensya na out of topic. I would like to ask lang sana kung my idea kayo sa package ng globe regarding sa galaxy S2, nakalagay kasi sa BOX 16GB, yung 16GB ba yun eh total memory ng phone both usb and internal memory, kasi my sd slot sya which walang kasamang sd card, tumawag nako sa globe regarding this sabi nila wala daw talaga. gusto lang i verify talaga sana kung yung box mismo eh walang kasamang 16gb na sd card. Thanks

  7. Samsung Galaxy S I9000 = Samsung Galaxy Ace
    samsung Galaxy S ll l9100 = Samsung Galaxy Z

at least Samsung is coming up with a cheaper version. however, a few thousand more, one can already get a superduper amoled+ with galaxy Sll.

  8. another copy cat news from engadget.just blog the gadget that will be available in the philippines.

  9. I agree. The Galaxy Z is the budget-friendly version of the Galaxy S2.

  10. i was hoping for a smaller screen :\ anything more than 4″ is too much for me. ~3.8″ is my ideal screen size

  11. The most thorough and informative information I have found. Enjoyed it immensely. I have seen some crappy posts but this one really impresses me. Good work. Regularly I do not make comments on blogs, but I have to say that this posting really acted me to do so. Really fantastic post. Really fantastic and I will be coming back for more information at your site and revisit it! Thank you.
