Sony’s Thinnest: 9.9mm Bravia ZX1

Sony Philippines launched yesterday the world’s slimmest LCD TV – the Bravia ZX1, measuring only 9.9mm in depth. That’s slimmer than the Nokia E71 or the iPhone 3G.

Announced in August of 2008, the Sony Bravia ZX1 was unveiled in the Philippines yesterday with a 40″ model unit. It features the Edge LED technology, or side-mounted LEDs, to illuminate the screen.

Some highlights in the specs — full HD 1080p, 10-bit panel, an HDMI port, light sensor. Of course, you can hang this on the wall and activate the Picture Frame Mode so you can project a static image on the TV for hours (not sure how much will that affect the lifespan of the LCD).

Best of all, it’s practically wire-free — comes with a high-speed wireless connection capable of real time transmission of HD signals (1080p) to the Bravia ZX1 (there’ a wireless box that interfaces with it and has the 3 other HDMI ports). Now, if only this one doesn’t cost as much as a brand new car.

  1. Hm…only in my dreams would I ever get to buy this one!

But makes me wonder how this fares with Samsung’s LED TVs.

  2. This will look good on my living room. Haha. Just kidding. Haven’t you people gotten used to Sony’s schematics?
