In a recent post by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), there will now be free 24/7 internet access for all traversing the Pasig River via ferry.
Users can connect to internet hubs across 12 Pasig River Ferry Service (PFRS) stations from Escolta to Pinagbuhatan. On top of that, there will also be free internet on the ferries themselves – ensuring users are never disconnected along the route. Three ferries have been equipped so far – Mutya 1, 2, and Vicente.
Internet speeds will reach up to 60 Mbps, with support for 100 users simultaneously surfing the web. Each user will be limited to a 12-hour session to maintain fair usage and keep it accessible for others. Realistically, an average speed of 10-20 Mbps can be expected during peak usage times.

This is a joint effort of the DICT, MMDA, and Pasig LGU under the Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP). This initiative recognizes the importance of internet access in this day and age, where connectivity is vital for business, work, learning, entertainment, government service use, and a myriad of other functions.
The agencies have claimed that their goal is to incentivize more people to ride the ferries by increasing the quality of this mode of transportation. What are your thoughts?
