Meta has rolled out new safety tools across WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram to help older adults avoid online scams. Key features include a WhatsApp warning when trying to share a screen with an unknown contact during a video call, and AI in Messenger that can detect suspicious messages from new contacts and alert users. Meta has also introduced a more secure Passkey login using fingerprints, face recognition, or PINs across its apps.

In December 2023, Meta began rolling out end-to-end encryption by default for personal chats and calls on Facebook and Messenger. This means only the sender and recipient can see the message contents, not even Meta. The global rollout was expected to take several months. Once upgraded, users are prompted to set up a recovery PIN.

Messenger has introduced several new media features, including the ability to send HD photos by toggling an 'HD' button, create shared albums in group chats, and share files up to 100MB in size. Users can also add contacts via QR code from the Messenger Settings.
