Messing around with the Theme

After several weeks mulling over the CSS reboot of this blog, and after considering several of the earlier comments and suggestions, I’ve finally decided to roll out a minor tweak to the theme.

Some of the more obvious changes are the background (I wanted to be a little artsy this time), the logo and some font sizes and colors. Hope the improvements are appreciated by the reading public.

Digital Photo Printing: Commercial or Home Brew?

Ever since I got into digital photography 2 years ago, I’ve always sent my digital photos to commercial printers. I personally use DigiPrint as I’m also a member of their DigiPrint Pro club.

I’ve also noticed a lot of friends and fellow bloggers giving out personal calling cards made from printed photo papers. Some are done commercially (3 pieces can fit in a 4R) while others do their own printing. So, which one is actually better?

Death threats forced Malu Fernandez to resign?

Just read from Marc Macuha’s blog that columnist Malu Fernandez of Manila Standard Today and People Asia has resigned and apologized for what she wrote on some of her recent articles.

This would have been a huge triumph for the blogosphere that have been very vocal against her — but death threats?

So, how long have you been blogging?

One of the most often asked question that’s thrown at me is how long I’ve been into blogging. It has been close to seven (7) years already and in internet years, that’s like an eternity.

Which brings me to another curious thought — what’s the average age of a regular blogger nowadays?

Nokia 6555 to compete with Motorola Razr

Despite the global dominance of mobile manufacturer Nokia, it still lags behind Motorola in Northern America. This is primarily because of the Razr which had a phenomenal sales performance with most telcos in the US.

Motorola sold 50 million Razr phones in less than 2 years after its debut. So, what will Nokia do to claim the northern regions — a Nokia 6555 Razr-like flip phone.

Welcome Notes to Visitors from Mel & Joey

I’d like to welcome my new visitors and readers coming from MSN Live, Yahoo! & Google looking for my blog after watching the feature at Mel & Joey last night. I was surprised that for a 2-hour footage, they managed to squeeze it in a 2-minute feature.

Just to guide our new visitors, I’d like to point you out to some readings. I wasn’t really anticipating to be inundated with emails so apologies if I didn’t come up with a welcome page to guide all of you along and answer the more obvious questions beforehand.

Bourne Ultimatum Contest Winners

I’m a little delayed in drawing the winners of the recent Bourne Ultimatum Giveaway Contest. The original idea of picking up 3 out of the 9 countries in random was a bad idea as well since I ended up drawing the combination several times over as no one got the correct match. For nine countries, there are 504 3-country combinations altogether.

Anyway, here are the winners of the draw:

End of days for Technorati?

David SifryThis has been all over the news and blogs — Technorati CEO David Sifry is stepping down as head huncho of the blog search engine. His new role will be Chairman of the Board and despite several months of searching for a new CEO, he’s moving on to the boardroom without a definite replacement.

What’s more surprising is that Technorati will be letting go laying off 8 of the around 45 people in the team. A sure sign that the start-up is already in the red and might be out of cash soon.

Is it too late for Movable Type?

MT4SixApart finally launched the new Movable Type (MT4) the other day. This is, by far, the biggest product release for MT. Lots of new features, plugins and improvements.

Nevertheless, all that splash hasn’t really made huge waves in the blog software industry. SixApart, even with its wide range of blogging products and services (LiveJournal, Vox, TypePad, MT and the now discontinued SplashBlog), may have lost its chance to get back its groove.

Is it too late for Movable Type? I’m afraid so.

Why I’m into Open Source Consulting

If I remember correctly, it was from Nick Nichols whom I first heard of this term. Nick says blogging is a form of open source consulting. I guess that was my approach ever since I first started my online presence back in 2000.

Back then, I saw the power of the internet as sort of dynamic collaboration with free flowing information and discussions of almost anything one can ever imagine. I was awed and thought the Internet was inherently good as it opens new possibilities for everyone who has access to it.

Here’s one really interesting trend I dug from the stats log Pinoy Top Blogs — an hourly trend of internet traffic for blogs. Although, I’m only basing these figures from the said site which tracks close to 3,000 Filipino blogs, I’m sure we can derive something useful from this.

Here are the numbers and the charts:
